This 60-minute TV movie was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Rugrats, which is why it gets set 10 years into the future and also why instead of having Angelica pick a smaller number, she says "I'll count to 10" instead. This 2-part episode pops up at the end of Season 7 of the Rugrats series.
The theme for All Grown Up is performed by Cree Summer, who also plays Susie Carmichael in Rugrats / All Grown Up.
In this pilot, they are all 10 years older, which means Tommy is 11 and Chuckie is 12. These are supposed to be Chuckie's first days with the braces. At the rest of the first season, we can clearly see they are only 9 years older, yet Chuckie has braces!
When Angelica says to Samantha, "Charlie Finster... the third" she holds up 4 fingers instead of 3.
Kimi rips her pants when she falls out of the closet. Yet when they walk into the kitchen immediately afterwards, she is wearing a skirt.
In the lunchroom, Kimi yells "Save you a seat!" to Tommy and Chuckie. If you look at her lips closely, you'll notice that they don't mouth the correct words, "Save you a seat."
In this episode, Charlotte looks the same as she did in the original Rugrats. But in the All Grown Up series, she has higher cheek bones because of her apparent plastic surgery. Note: She could've gotten plastic surgery in between the pilot and the official first episode of the show.
Emica: How about the cool guy next to the dude with the braces? Angelica: Pick me! We're cousins! Practically twin cousins! Please! Please! Please!
Chuckie: We just wanted to know the words for Emica's songs for the concert! Angelica: You want too much, Finster.
Phil: I don't know what, but something about spaghetti always brings me back to my childhood… (holds up some noodles) Kimi: Eww! That looks like worms! Phil: Oh, yeah…
Kimi: We will be smarter! Phil: We will know to spit! Lil: You already know how to spit, Phil. Phil: But it will be a smarter spit.
Samantha: Ewwww! Is that peanut butter?! Angelica: Oh, my gosh! How did that get there?! (At front of the bus) Tommy: Don't look now, but I think Angelica found the peanut butter.
Tommy: Thanks. Angelica: Forget about it. We're cousins, stick together for all eternity. Grandpa Lou: That is the sweetest doggone thing I have ever heard you sprouts say!
Tommy: Only ten more years before Angelica's nice to us! Angelica: Hey! Somebody drooled on it, too. I'll get you lumpy-headed babies. Aunt Didi! Aunt Didi! Chuckie: Tommy, is ten years going to be a very long time? Angelica: Aunt Didi!
Angelica, Dil, & Tommy: Grandpa?! Dil: Isn't it past your bedtime, Grandpa?
Angelica: Okay, they embarassed themselves enough. Let's go.
Stu: Tommy! Dil! Dil: You are in so much trouble.
Dil: Spike, no! I just wiped the table. Tommy: Dil, chill out. I told you to do my chores, not turn into Mom!
Tommy: I doubt dad believes in that luck charm stuff, anyhow.
Samantha: That's great about the necklace! If you really have it, I mean.
Samantha: Everyone's dressing retro for the concert. I'm wearing my mom's faux-fur mini. Angelica: I'm wearing my mom's lime-green power suit. Samantha: Eww. That's not retro, that's sad.
Angelica: Playing in a closet! You guys are such pre-teens!
This is the only All Grown Up episode to have Christine Cavanaugh voice Chuckie Finster.
We learn Dil was dropped on his head as a baby by Phil and Lil.
Savannah and Samantha are two different people. Samantha doesn't appear again until "Yu-Gotta-Go," and Savannah doesn't even appear in the this pilot. Savannah will make many cameos in the first season, but doesn't have a big part until "Miss Nose it All."
Everyone's outfits were like what they wore as babies.
Kimi appears in this episode, but only has four lines of dialogue, which all appear in part one. She doesn't speak in part two.
In this pilot, all the characters have different clothes than the series. (Example: Tommy`s sweater is blue and white, but in the series, it's yellow and white.)
Tommy has Stu's hair color, and Dil has Didi's hair color.
Apparently, the reason "All Growed Up" was later changed to "All Grown Up" was because there is already a show called "All Growed Up," which is, ironically, made by two major people involved with the original Rugrats.
The concept of Tommy's time machine was originally introduced in the Rugrats Files line of books.
When this episode premiered, it was the most watched program on Nickelodeon ever.
After All Grown Up premiered with the following episode, this special had be redone with the All Grown Up title sequence and theme.
This special was 1 hour and 30 minutes long in its original airing.
Howard and Kira are apparently absent and so is Grandpa's wife.
Premiered as a Rugrats episode.
Phrase: You're turning blecanese! I really think so! There's a song "Turning Japanese" and the chorus is "I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so!"
