Edith, who stands by idly as a resident dies, is fired from the Sunshine Home after she admits to the outraged son-in-law that she was just following the woman's wishes to be allowed to die with dignity. Afterwards, she is visited at home by the woman's daughter.moreless
  • Right to die story

This is an interesting story, especially in that time period, about whether someone should die with dignity. Edith sat by a patient's side while she died instead of calling for help. The patient had just expressed to her how she wanted to die and be with her husband, but of course there were no such things as living wills back then so the family got all upset by Edith's actions. But in the end the woman's daughter thanked Edith for being strong enough to just sit there and let her go. And in a rare moment of compassion, Archie told Edith that he thought she did the right thing.moreless
