An entry in the trivia section for this episode says that "Edith's Night Out" is one of series creator Norman Lear's favorites. It's very easy to see why. Jean Stapelton gives what could very well be her best performance of the series in this episode. There have been other episodes where Edith is the focal point, but this one is the best because it's the only one of its kind that is lighthearted and upbeat. The scene in the episode where Edith says to Archie "I gotta get away from you tonight." is the best of the entire episode. Excellent.moreless
