Season 1, Episode 3, Aired
EDIT

Episode Summary

While moonlighting, driving a taxi for Bert Munson, Archie is in a minor fender bender with a Jewish woman. Archie doesn't think much of it, that is until he hears Lionel's story about how George and Louise collected a fine sum of money (enough to open their first cleaning store) from an automobile accident settlement. Thus, Archie suddenly comes down with a bad case of whiplash and insists on a Jewish lawyer to handle the case.moreless

      • Mike mentions that he has a brother-in-law who is a lawyer in this episode that Archie could use. This implies that he has a sister who lives close by. The brother-in-law or sister were never mentioned again and were never seen. Edit
    • Notes

      ADD NOTES
      • We find out how The Jeffersons get into the dry cleaning business. Edit
      • Actor George Furth, who plays Whitney Fitzroy IV in this episode, would come back to play Mr. Crenshaw in Season Six's episode "Mike Faces Life." Edit
      • The stylistic minimalism of the Bunker's sparsely furnished set is on full display in this early episode. According to director John Rich, who grew up not far from Archie's neighbood, the Spartan look of the Bunker's living room decor was achieved as a result of painstaking efforts. The director remembers personally supervising the cracking of windows and repainting of walls to give the place a run-down, lived-in look. "I told the set designers to take all the color out of it,"remembers Rich. "Norman and I wanted to do the show in black and white, but CBS nearly went into a coma. So we decided to do the next best thing and shoot the entire show in muted sepia tones." Edit
