      • Multiple sclerosis – an auto-immune disease of the central nervous system. The white fatty substance called myelin, which ensheaths nerve fibres, degrades and is destroyed gradually, and a number of lesions form on the spinal cord and in the brain. It is still unknown what causes the disease, which usually develops in individuals aged between 20 and 40. Symptoms of the disease vary and depend on the sites of the lesions. Common symptoms include: changes to vision (blurring, loss or double), speech slurring, hand tremors, weakness of the extremeties, numbness, tingling or pain, and loss of control over anal and urinary sphincters.

      • MRI - stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is used to scan and create images of any part of the body at any angle and direction in a reasonable short amount of time. It is non-invasive, relatively safe and able to produce images of soft tissues to locate any abnormalities within the body.
