  • Return to the typical woman-affirming, fast-paced show that I love; still hate the Deanna storyline.

    8.0
I'll say this first and get it out of the way; the PS of the Deanna Richardson storyline was miserable. She shows up, drops off some stuff Jack left at her place (hello? haven't you heard of his HOUSE?) and wants to talk, at which point Jack throws back in her face every rotten thing she did to him, namely, lying to him and using him as a backer. And she apologises some more. Um, what was the point of that? To prove once and for all that Deanna was both incapacle of being a decent human being (or else she wouldn't have screwed everyone over something chronic) or a decent bad girl (or she wouldn't have let herslef get caught out/go grovelling for forgiveness). She's caught in nowhereland and, as such, is a bad character. I was hoping for a pregnant and/or HIV scare; something to keep the tension running high. Instead, I got a grovelling apology. I expected more.

Having said that, I loved the rest of the episode. Alex Davies was great as Cate, who dared to go where the doctors didn't. Tammy Macintosh was amazing as Charlotte, who held down a fast-disintegrating fort with aplomb. Judith McGrath got a thumbs up for telling Nelson where to shove it and stop thinking he had the market for grief cornered on Kerry's death.

I'd love to see more of Alex Fowler; Frank makes a mention of her when he shows Von his pitiful vego lunch, packed by Evie. I loved her in Big Sky and the drastic change of character shows me just what a capable actress she is. Given AS's history of showing perfectly capable females (with the exception of Deanna) perhaps Evie will come aboard as a new major characterar?

I'm not sure what to make of Erika. My gut instict is that she has the same try-hard-make-a-good-impression instinct as Deanna, and even seems to have a thing for Jack. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Eight. I would have given it ten, but I took two away for the miserable way the wrote out Deanna, even more miserable then Just Desserts

    • (About the mincer which injured Tim)
Chef: So what do you know about mincers?
Frank: Well, I know this one didn't have a cut-off switch, and there was not restrictive plate over the feed throat - now that's gross negligence on the part of the owner, and you are the owner right - you did say this was your property? Do you want me to go on? Idiot!

    • (To Dan about not being told about the Nelson and Colin situation)
Sean: I wasn't asking for a memo, just a chance to avoid putting my foot in it about 387 times so far...today.

    • Frank: Dog ate your homework Jane?
      Charlotte: No Deanna Richardson did.

    • (About knowing his staff)
Dr Newell: Alright then tell me, why did Deanna Richardson resign?
Frank: Well yes, that's a bit of a mystery, isn't it.
