  • The departure of Nelson and the replacements for all those other exited characters start to trickle in.

    9.0
I was disapointed by the way Nelson's disintegration and departure was handled, I thought it should have been more fleshed out. Two eps ago, he seemed more or less fine; then he just goes crazy and is commited. I would have liked it to be less abrupt, little clues as to his unravelling state of mind like they did with ben from Blue Heelers. I'm sure Deanna's influence would have done something to mess with his mind, but we never saw it until it suddenly came up.

Good to see Evie back, and we found out more about her past relationships with Frank and Alison, and why she hates Alison so much. i think Alexandra Fowler is a very talented actress and I'd like to see more or her on the show.

John Howard had some great moments, having to accept Nelson's disintegration and help him as best he could, and having to break the news to Von. He's certainly come along way from cranky, mean-spirited Frank, although he shows some of his old colours when dealing with the new doctor.

Thought it was funny when Frank asked for a voluneer for NUM following Nelson's departure and no-one volunteered, not even when Charlotte asked 'don't you remember what happened the last time Nelson was replaced' (cue a very guilty-looking Jack). Looks like they're going to get an outsider again.

Am I the only one who thinks that three of the longest-running charscters (who would have accounted for three of the highest-paid actors) were written out to pay for John Waters?

The medical storylines; focused on a gatecrashed party. jack deals with a patient who desperately needs surgery. He's given the runaround from the registrar, so he calls the consultant at home, at one in the morning. turns out his insticts were spot-on, but Charlotte and Sean have a good laugh at his expense - has he considered another line of work? architecture, parking cars, anything BUT medicine? Nice to see them so pally, I think he has a better comaraderie then he does with Cate. I think Charlotte can keep Sean's renegade streak in line a little, whereas Cate will just go along with him.

TPTB seem to be setting Jack up to be a renegade like Vincent. Charlotte actually says something to this affect, that he feels pressure to fill Vincent's shoes.

One of the gatecrasher's in a right s-o-b, aggressesive as all hell. Cate shows her usual spunk in dealing with him, and new new doctors shows his inexperience when dealing with sticky situations and uncooperative patients.

A new doctor was introduced, Bart??? (Forgot his name) He's very pompous, and seems to expect adulation and respect without actually having done anything to deserve it. He seemed very ungrateful for his oppurtunities, practically complaining that the patients had the nerve to get sick at night. He almost kilss a patient through inexperience, which is maybe why starting off in the ED is a bad idea.

I totally sympathised with Cate when she laughed at him for saying she was disrespectful for coming to his assistance when he DROPED THE CATHATAR!!!. Feel kind of sorry for him, though, to be doing his first shift on the night shift of the ED. And to deal with Frank is such a crabby mood, after Deanna and ALison, his heart attack and Nelson's break-down. He seemed to have a moment with the rest of the doctors and nurses when he vented his anger at Frank's uncommunicativeness.

Can see a bond developing between Bart and Erica, like we had with Dan and Jess. Is it just me, or are the cast getting younger and younger?

Incidentally, I'm interested in what they do with tammy Macintosh's pregnancy. Will they write it in? I doubt it, after the pregnancy storyline. But it would be interesting if they did, who would be the father (TV week voters seem evely split between Vincent, Spence and sperm donation) and how Jack would react?

A good episode, loaded with Cate's spunkiness. Nine.moreless
