A seventeen-year-old girl, Taylor, is admitted with a fractured arm. She extresses concern about the fact she hasn't menstrated yet, causing Frank to call in the only female doctor he can think of - his former protege, Zoe. Zoe gets to the bottom of Taylor's illness in a storyline that was touching, intriquing and brilliant in its moral ambigouity - was her mother wrong, or just over-protective?

Dealing with his morphine addiction not too well, Mike abandons Jack in the middle of a complicated surgery to shoot up. Jack hits the roof over it, and gives Mike what-for. I was really pleased to see Jack stand up to Mike - he can be a little whimpy in his intimidation of his mentor. Once more, though, I REALLY wish TPTB would give Wil Traval more to do. The storyline with Charlotte's pregnancy and miscarriage really showcased his acting ability, and he hasn't been given anything so meaty since.

Nice couple of moments between Cate and Jack, and a funny comment from Dan which amounted to 'Jack's resigned as President of the Mike Vlasek fan club, and it looks like Cate's taking his place'.

Speaking of Dan - his infatuation with Zoe was amusing, and Frank's obvious respect and affection for her was nice. Overall, though, I wasn't too fussed with Zoe. She seemed two-dimensional and annoyingly perky to me.

Evie leaves for Europe, calling things off with Frank, who told her he wanted her to stay too late. Can't say I blame her, but poor Frank.

The episode ends with Cate seeing Mike shoot up. Interested in seeing what happens next week - after all, it's only her word against his.

Good medical storylines, but apart from Jack and Mike, it lacked the character interaction that I used to love about AS. Maybe if they streamline the characters they'll have more time for that, and less for big-name actors showcasing their talents.moreless
