  • Good character development and comaraderie.

    8.5
Mike, Jack and Cate are sent out to free a man trapped in a car which he drove into a tree while trying to kill a spider. Mike, being his typical cowboy self, is determined to free the man without amputating his crushed, trapped legs, even though the man has requested Mike do so.

Mike ropes Cate into his cowboy schemes, getting her to help him with a surgical procedure (not sure how legal that was!). Cate and Jack both looked nervouse about what Mike intended to do, although Cate, as always, was up for the challenge. She certainly seems attracted (at least in a professional capacity) to doctors who like breaking the rules - Vincent, Sean, now Mike.

They eventually free the man and get him to the ED, only to have him die there. Mike is devastated, and there was a nice comaraderie between Jack and Cate. Not counting the established relationships like Evie and Frank and Charlotte and Spence, I think J/C have the best chemistry...

...Followed by Dan and Erica, who show a good comaraderie over a patient of Erica's. Vikki is a teenage girl who was raped by her boyfriend's mates. She doesn't want to report it, wants what needs to be done to be done so she can go home and forget about it. Charlotte is adamant that they respect her wishes, even if they don't agree with them, but it breaks Erica's heart to see Vikki suffering and her tormentors get away with it, so she breaks the rules.

I really liked Erica in this episode. We can see what made her good as a pallitive care nurse; she really connects with her patients, maybe too much sometimes.

There was also a nice four-way comararderie between Jack, Cate, Erica and Dan as they head off for Cougars at the end of the episode. Would liked to have seen Gabrielle join in, though.

Gabrielle showed some of that spunk we saw when we first met her a few episodes back, and haven't seen since. She and Von devise a way to get what they want out of Frank - but making Frank think it was all his idea. It makes me think that Terri, Nelson, Deanna, even Dan had been goingabout Frank the wrong way, confronting him directly, when Gabrielle's way of offhandedly suggesting something only to have Frank come back an hour later touting his latest great idea seemed a lot more effective - and involve a lot less heartache.

An interesting development with Mike at the end of the episode; I wonder where that will end up?

Overall, a damn good ep. The last few weeks seem to have bene missing a sense of comaraderie between the main characters, and I liked that we got a bit more of that this week. There've been better episodes this season, but an improvement on the last few weeks.
