At times Allo Allo played around with its own formula. This episode uses the recurring incident of Edith catching René and Yvette, and has some fun with it. For once Edith thinks before René comes up with an excuse and demands that Yvette explain the suspicious circumstances. Later in the episode she catches René and Herr Flick (disguised as Yvette) in the broom cabinet. Even René is dumbfounded at first, but he talks his way out of it eventually. In the third and final incident René just gives up and tells Edith to stop annoying her. And so, after many years of being duped by her husband, Edith expresses her rage and runs after them with an axe. Perhaps it's because the writers knew the series was reaching its end that they could play this running joke to its logical conclusion. After all, there was a limit to Edith's gullibility.
