Ally is in denial about her birthday but her co-workers aren't. Elaine orchestrates a party at the bar and asks Dr. Greg Butters to sing a romantic ballad dedicated to Ally. He does, and knocks the socks off everyone in the room. Rene is especially moved, and jumps up on stage to join him in a seductive duet. Meanwhile, in the courtroom, Ally is forced to take the position for a new client that his foot fetish qualifies him as temporarily insane. Rene, as the opposing district attorney, maintains that sneaking into a would-be date's apartment uninvited to tickle her feet is breaking and entering.moreless

    • Ally: [The face] starts to crack when you hit thirty. It loses moisture. And the only reason I look as young as I do is because I had the good sense not to smile growing up. That, and I stayed out of the sun. Renée: No smiles. No sunshine. Got it all figured out.

    • Richard: Elaine, why do you seize upon any occasion to do a number? If you want to be a performer, take off your clothes.

    • Georgia: What makes your problems bigger than everybody else's? Ally: They're mine.

    • Renée: I just saw somebody great onstage and I immediately thought I'd upstage him. Ally: I was the one you upstaged. Renée: It was a song, Ally. Ally: Oh yeah, it was pure harmony. You did everything but hump [Greg's] leg!

    • Ally: Renée, I'm fine. I'm used to getting dumped, remember? Think back. This isn't pain I'm feeling. It's nostalgia.

    • Ally: Do you know what the most common insanity going today is? It is the idea that love will just come to you, even if you do nothing. 'Oh, the right one will come along. It will happen. You just wait.' Who the hell came up with that?!

    • Ally: Sometimes the things that you regret the most are the things that you don't do.
