Ally has to defend a friend of Whipper brought up on solicitation charges. She is serving as second chair to Cage, whose idiosyncrasies become increasingly apparent and mystifying to Ally as well as the other attorneys. At the same time, on a different case, a severely rotund attorney passes out from a near heart attack just outside the courtroom and Ally has to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.moreless

Ally defends a prostitute friend of whipper and also saves the life of an overweight opponent laywer. So far in this series, this has been the weakest of episodes. Still good but not just at the standard of the first 5 before it. The characters are less quirky than before. The guys in the office drool about a new girl who gives out the mail. Now dont get me wrong she is cool, but drool-able...there is nicer in their office already. Vonda Sheppard rendering of "I only wanna be with you" at the end is super, and its brilliant for the scene.moreless

    • Angela: Can I give you a hug? Ally: Sure. (Ally's spine cracks as Angela hugs her) Angela: Oh, my God! I've broken you! Ally: No, no, I'm fine. Angela: I feel terrible! Ally: No, no, no. I pop out of alignment so easily.

    • Sandra: See the star witness over there? Doctor, community-minded, sits on the school committee, coaches boys' soccer. He's noble. He also comes to me with his VISA card twice a month to earn frequent flyer miles. John: Well, one might say you-- you entrapped him with your feminine wiles. Sandra: One might. But I didn't slither up to him wearing perfume. He found me... in the yellow pages.

    • Renée: Do we ever meet interesting, single men? Ally: Well, that's because we're lawyers. And-- and all we meet are single male attorneys. And that is a pathetic breed!

    • Ally: We make so few promises to ourselves as we grow up. And one of them is that on our wedding day, we walk down the aisle with somebody we love. Somebody who does... make your heart bounce, I guess. And there are some promises, Harry, that I think we just have to keep.

    • Ally: Angela-- Angela, I am the last person who should be giving advice of the heart to anybody. I mean, look at me. I am a strong working career girl who-- who feels empty without a man. The National Organization for Women-- they have a contract out on my head.

    • Angela: Sometimes, when you hold out for everything... you walk away with nothing.

    • John: The world is no longer a romantic place. Some of its people still are however. And therein lies the promise... Don't let the world win, Ally McBeal.
