  • Damn you Robert Downey Jr. for impacting Ally Mcbeal's world!

So the episode is called the wedding and as mentioned in the "notes" section on the page for this episode, there was supposed to be a wedding between Ally and Larry. I watched Ally McBeal when it originally aired in the early 2000's but I missed most of the fourth season and all of the fifth season, I then bought the complete series box set last year (2010) in January and my blu-ray player would not(!) play the disks....

I did a firmware update recently and suddenly the disks worked and I am now on season 5 of Ally McBeal. Why did i give you that long-winded story? because I knew from the beginning that RDJ was "fired" from the show. I knew Ally doesn't end up with him, and I used to believe that her soulmate died with Billy. nope, this episode is ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking, because we all know that she (Ally)should be with Larry, and because of the mistakes of the actor who played him, the writers had to make up some excuse for the two not to be together. so sad. and i love (!) RDJ, but seriously, i HATE how their relationship ended as a result of his bad decisions :(moreless

    • Girl: Can I ask you a question? Are you his mother?
      Ally: I'm his mistress.

    • George: You know, it's okay to cry all day if you have to.

    • Ally: Why haven't you been coming around this year? Did you... meet somebody else up there?
Billy: You haven't called me or needed me.
Ally: And you think I do now?
      Billy: I'm just checking in.
Ally: Do you think that you could give God a little message for me?
      Billy: Absolutely not.
Ally: So why are you here, Billy?
Billy: Just to share a little classified information. There's a very happy life ahead of you.
      Ally: I never doubted it.
Billy: Then I guess I'll be going.

    • John: Most of the people here, they don't live emotionally.
Richard: We need to fix that. I want this to be a place of compassion. Shall we fire them?
John: Well, as acts of compassion go, that wouldn't be my first choice.

    • Ally: Do you understand what I'm trying to tell you, Malcolm?
Malcolm: I think. You still believe in love.
Ally: Exactly. And you have to. Yeah, you... you just, uh, you have to.

    • Ally: John, I'm fine. Don't you see me in a bar having a good time?
      John: Yes, it's infectious.

    • Ally: Who's her lawyer?
      Rev. Harris: Mr. Larry Paul.
      Ally: Hmmm.
Rev. Harris: Have you been up against him personally?
Ally: Yeah, you could say that.

    • Ling: What skills does she have?
John: Warmth. We've decided you can't do it alone, Ling.

    • On April, 2001, Robert Downey Jr. was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was then fired from the show, and the season finale had to be re-written (and the last part of the episode before that too, I think). That's the reason why the episode is called The Wedding, but there's no wedding on it. Apparently, if RDJ had not been fired, DEK would marry Ally and Larry on the season finale. But that's all speculation that was spread around the internet after his arrest. Although Fox's reps deny he was fired, DEK was "furious" for having to re-write the two part season finale. Calista was also very shocked to learn that her co-worker had been arrested. She reportedly fainted when DEK told her.

    • Leslie Jordan's character, Dr. Benjamin Harris, would later switch over to Boston Public, another David E. Kelly show, where he was a recurring character.

    • This episode marks the last regular appearance of Lisa Nicole Carson (Renée Raddick) and the last appearance of James LeGros (Mark Albert). Carson will return for the series finale "Bygones".

    • Malcom: (song)
The song sang by Malcom is a version with lyrics of a song by Enio Moriconne, from the Academy Award nominated soundtrack of the Italian movie Malena.
