  • Alphas: The Whistle Blower

Throughout its vastly underrated first season, Alphas has continuously blurred the line between who's right and who's wrong. At the center of this dilemma has been the show's version of Professor X, Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn)a well-meaning scientist who's… more

  • Alphas is Greek for "What Heroes Should Have Been"

It's a shame that the TV media world can't shut up about Charlie Sheen and the beginning of Premiere Week today, because last night's episode of Alphas deserves way more chatterit was easily the best thing on television last night.… more

The shows are pretty average storylines, some humour , some action.
i get the feeling this is a replacement for Heroes.

  • SciFi Fan disappointed

    2.5
    "Terrible"
I'm sorry to say that I have been disappointed with the series, so far.
Unlike X-Men, the abilities these people claim to possess has not been dramatically demonstrated well. There has been no "physical" (if you can call it that) manifestations, except for the 'strongman',the woman with the "voice", and the autisic electronics kid. It leaves me wondering if the charactersreally have real abilities, Also, is this supposed to be a drama? Where is the only seem to be reciting their lines; not being the characters. It has been very hard to watch the show at all. There's no passion in the characters.
However, I will continue to watch the show in hopes that my opinion will change.
One other thing, there's no comedy relief. You've got people with special "powers" and there's no ?? pracks?? or other twists? How are these people, doing what they do, supposed to handle to stresses without some comedy relief?moreless

  • Like Heroes, only one more step into the realm of reality. Good writing so far.

    "Great"
I actually find it refreshing to see a show with superpowered people whose powers are just beyond the realm of what's realistically possible, not way out in fantasyland. There's no time travel, teleportation, flight, or shapeshifting.
Where Heroes took one step in this direction, avoiding the silly costumes and ridiculous hairdos of most superhero movies, Alphas seems like it could actually take place in our universe.
I like that the powers have clear limitations and rules. This makes for much more coherent storytelling and keeps the writers from getting lazy. Let's hope they can keep this show interesting and not fall prey to all the executive meddling that ruined Heroes.
I also like that the main "alphas" actually talk to each other and work together. I'm interested in the whole government vs. individualist conflict, and am curious to see if any of the team will break away from the government and join the other side. I also hope they don't let the Famous Sci-Fi Guest Stars drive the plot too much. It's so frustrating when a good plot gets derailed or rewritten depending on which celebrity is available.moreless

  • X-Men vs Mutant X vs Alphas - who would win!!!

    8.5
    "Great"
Although this show could be compared to X-Men and Mutant X, this new series from the new SyFy house shows great promise with its first season under its belt.
Combining elements of both previous mentioned and compared shows, Alphas combines the "secret team", government conspiracies, "new-world-order", and similar storyline elements to push the show along. Together with the tried and tested romance and bad-boys characterizations, the show is a little predictable, but I like the "mutant" element handle by pushing the real science instead of the science-fiction aspect.
I'm looking forward to new episodes, and hope it will be screened locally here Oz.moreless
