Crappy show, crappy actors. Watching the pilot was a complete waste of time for me. I'm sure this show will be cancelled after the first season. Or even earlier.

Really? I thought the premiere was pretty good and believe me I had low expectations.

I loved Heroes, I watched No Ordinary Family although I'll be the first to admit that the latter was never really that good to begin with.

Watching the premiere I was actually impressed with the writing and it's a good thing that they're keeping leashes on their characters' powers yet they actually show the Alphas using their powers instead of being afraid of them/thinking they're freaks, etc.

And the premise was well planned out I thought it was refreshing to start a super powered series off with not having to see the origins of the characters and jump right into the current team, but it'd be nice to see some flashback scenes once we get the feel of all the characters.

With just one episode in, I'm impressed. I just hope that they dont go the 100% procedural route with the show and don't build up an arc(s) but with the guy taking their pictures I'm assuming they have a plan.

I'm going to to continue watching...and it's actually the first show I've ever watched on SyFy.

(Why NBCU couldn't finish up the Heroes franchise before jumping into something new is kind of weird though)

Sadly I find myself having to agree with you - At least for now though I do have hope that it'll improve but everything did seem pretty flat - The writing, the acting everything and did anyone else notice how BAD some of the camerawork/blue screen stuff was especially that scene at the baseball field, Clearly the two actors weren't actually standing anywhere near a real field.

I agree with the crappy actors part. Some of them are quite dull and I don't buy the character. The psychologist is supposed to a powerful team leader with great wit, but the execution is poor.

The big dude, Bill, is supposed to be the sh!t disturber, but doesn't really cut it.

Nina is supposed to be the girl that gets her own way, but her attitude isn't of one. (but actually I like her attitude in general)

Gary is pretty good though, the actor does a convincing impersonation of a person with some form of autism.

Hicks, the guy from Vamprie Diaries, isn't too bad either.

Also, I found the show entertaining because I spent the hour looking for signs that it was filmed in Toronto, haha

I actually liked this show and had very low expectations. The quality of the acting surprised me as did the story line. Early on it seems to be a cross between Heroes and Xmen.

After only 3 episodes you have a better picture of the characters then after 1 season of heroes. That is bad?

I found the characters alright and the 3 episodes okay, but the over-arching story seems predictable. The second episode hammered in the idea that the "compound" is evil, yet the doctor still won't check to see what is really going on. Whenever a clue comes up on "Haven", they check it as soon as possible, like in real life. Here, it just seems like padding and mutant of the week fair.

It's a very good show! If you don't like it... don't watch! And I consider this show more plausible than House. Seriously, how many ultra rare diseases can one hospital encounter?

Some people translated it as some "Alpha Warriors", so I thought it is another crappy Star Trooper alternative, people in space suits taking flights in spaceships. I am glad that it is a really good show, and not the things that I thought before.
I don't like Dr. Roson's personality, but I like him in the show. It will bore me crap if it is another power man like House. Roson is a serious contribution to the show, I am pretty sure.
I quite agree the 'been there, done that' critic. Just that when NYP call this a hit, I am opposite and call it the right thing. I would like to point it out that House MD was also pretty lassy in their very first season. House deserved to get more than 5 seasons, while this Alphas does not have that much potential, but still a good show.

I agree, I'm really trying to like the show, but I'm just not buying the characters. I don't think the actors are bad, I think the directing is terrible. I've only watched 2 episodes and I think I'm giving up on it...

Well, people are entitled to their opinions and this is a forum for reviews, even if I don't share the same opinion as the OP. The show has tons of potential and intriguing, complex and conflicted characters just waiting to be fleshed out. You don't do a series justice by judging it off of its first couple of episodes. That's why it's called a series and not a mini-series. Give it a chance to build up to something. If they gave you everything up front, you wouldn't have anything to look forward to.

OK, I have a question for the Alpha haters out there:

What programs do you really like where the characters ARE believeable?

I watch a broad spectrum of TV programs ranging over many different genres and I find it VERY hard to believe there are any realistic shows out there.

Jesus, if you want realism then stick to documentaries, otherwise do you not just want to be entertained like the majority of people?

I mean, these days shows try to be more "realistic" but there lies the trap, if shows were more realistic then they would be downright boring as most peoples lifes are uninteresting.

Even Boardwalk Empire is dramatised to make Nucky Thompson seem more interesting (which is also a great show btw)

Please though, I am interested. What are the shows these days that really tell it like it is and the protagonist is NOT portrayed as larger then life?

Let me guess you're American, the programme is just in it's first series building up the characterisation of the main cast. Learn to watch a programme for more than cheap action thrills and you will start to find a well rounded write up of human stuggle and development within a strange context (super powers). The way it's written and portrayed on screen seems much more believable than the way Heroes handled it in the past, although I felt that programme started to develop characters in the first series very well it all became muddled from the second series, I do hope that this show does manage to keep it's integrity and not bow down to the usual pressures of bigger is better and focus on writing what in truth is more of a character driven drama with elements of sci-fi, in the same way Supernatural is.
