Alternative Nation

Show Summary

Alternative Nation was a music video show that was originally aired on MTV in the 1990's. It was similar to MTV's other alternative music show, 120 Minutes, in that they each played artists in the "alternative" genre, with AN airing nightly for one hour (120 Minutes aired weekly for two hours). AN was hosted by MTV VJ Kennedy (a.k.a. Lisa Kennedy Montgomery), and aired videos from the more popular alternative artists at the time, including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nine Inch Nails. Incidentally, the show's opening segment was taken from the Nine Inch Nails' video for "Pinion" (from their Broken EP).
