Amazing Stories

Deliciously evil! Set during the Great Depression (circa 1934), a group of regulars at a bar conspire to kill, directly or indirectly, an old man so that they can collect on an insurance policy.



Initially, they hope that the old man will simply drink himself to death, but when that fails they elect to take more direct action. Yet, ever sinister plot they hatch fails to kill the old man.



In the end, they come to realize that this seemingly benign and unimportant old man might just have a secret of his own.



The episode shows, but does not excuse, just what sort of horrible things people can do when they are as financially desperate as many Americans were during the Great Depression. You feel as if you are have traveled back in time to a bar in 1930s, and the episode has a final twist at the end, explaining how this old man is able to survive every attempt on his life. Parents take note, this episode is a bit darker then other episodes in the Amazing Stories series, but it is a top notch episode.
