  • Still faced with the prospect of having to close the church's doors forever, Deacon Frye comes up with a great idea. They will do a telethon in order to raise enough money to bring the building up to code.

'Amen' ends on a high note with each cast member getting the chance to perform at a special telethon. Bumper Robinson and Tony T. Johnson do a song and some dancing; Clifton Davis and Anna Maria Horsford sing 'Endless Love;' Jester Hairston appears with a dummy and does a ventriloquist act; Sherman Hemsley does a hilarious James Brown imitation; the real James Brown shows up and performs his hit 'I Feel Good;' singer Lloyd Price is also on hand and does a number; and Roz Ryan leads the entire cast in a touching rendition of the theme song 'Shine on Me' after the birth of Thelma and Reuben's son. It's a beautiful way to mark the final broadcast of a classic series.
