If there were a retrospective episode of 'Amen,' surely it would have to include some of the highlights of this episode. And there are many highlights. First, there is Sherman Hemsley's James Brown impersonation (which he will repeat in the series' final episode) and his version of Sonny Boy, sitting on Jester Hairston's lap. Next, Clifton Davis sings a nice Broadway show tune, and he gets to dance as the ladies of the cast join Jester Hairston for a rendition of a classic Andrews Sisters song. I particularly like the segment with Jester Hairston and Rosetta LeNoire singing about love and old age. But the finale is the best part. The whole cast assembles on stage and performs a song that conveys not only its faith but the overall theme of this series. It's truly one of the top episodes.
