  • Thelma plays nursemaid to her father whose ailments seem to be exaggerated with each passing moment. During his recovery period, the deacon tells Thelma stories about her mother, his late wife.moreless

This episode provides viewers with a lot of the 'backstory' about the characters' past relationships and how it affects where they are now. For instance, we learn that Thelma looks just like her mother did (Anna Maria Horsford in a dual role); that her name was Lorraine Tillman; and that she died when Thelma was five. However, the cause of death is not disclosed by the writers. Also, we learn that the deacon's friendship with Rolly goes back at least thirty or thirty-five years, since before Thelma's mother was in the picture and before Thelma was born. In fact, Rolly becomes Thelma's godfather and in an amusing flashback we see him help the deacon bring the wrong baby home from the hospital! This episode also marks the second appearance of Ernie's new maid, Inga (played by Elsa Raven). There's a questionable scene in which she hops in bed with him to warm him up when he's got the chills. Overall, this is a charming episode and it gives us more of a glimpse into the domestic goings on of the Frye household.moreless
