Rolly asks the deacon to help him tell a pretty waitress that he likes her. Ernie talks to the wrong waitress who doesn't even really know Rolly. Then, Ernie starts seeing her romantically, and now Rolly thinks the deacon has moved in on his territory.
This story plays as sort of a light romantic comedy (of errors). It involves a series of identity mixups and a stunt involving Sherman Hemsley and some cats. Clearly, the show has begun to hit its stride by putting the deacon into logical, yet increasingly absurd situations. In this episode, he gets involved with a woman at a local coffee shop he promised to ask on a date for Rolly. It's the wrong woman, (but that doesn't stop Rolly from being jealous). The deacon goes to see her after hours. At her apartment, he learns that she has a lot of cats and that she's married. He is forced to hide in the closet with the furry little critters when the husband comes home early. Next, the husband sits down on the sofa, but he wants to know where the cats are. So, one at a time, Hemsley must throw them out of the closet and on to the couch. He eventually sneaks away, with the last cat hanging on his back. The next day, it is realized that Rolly was infatuated with another waitress at the diner.
