  • The deacon manages a professional fighter, with the proceeds from the boxer's next match to benefit the church. However, training (and winning) is not as easy as it seems.

This episode very gradually builds to its frenzied comical climax. The plot involves a boxer whose contract has been taken over the church. Ernie functions as the man's manager, but everyone gets involved and helps him prepare for the fight. Thelma is cooking for him night and day; the reverend is praying with him; and the Hetebrinks and Rolly are providing additional moral support. The day of the big event finally arrives, and they all wind up ringside. The boxer loses the bout, but Ernie feels he's been cheated and hops into the ring himself. He puts on the boxing gloves and starts swinging. Next, the rest of the group is helping Ernie battle the other fighter's manager, with everyone slugging it out. It's one of the more classic moments of physical comedies in the series. The whole cast is involved, even the ladies who are bouncing around swinging their purses.
