  • The church votes Rolly its new chairman, removing the deacon from his position of power. He decides to focus on his law practice. Soon, a woman soon hires him, believing her husband to be unfaithful.

There are some funny moments for Jester Hairston in this episode. The church board removes Ernie as chairman, and they elect Rolly. To occasion the event, they give him a very large gavel. It seems as if he can barely lift it, let alone use it. So, to prove just how powerful he is, he smashes it down-- right through the table! Meanwhile, Sherman Hemsley is given the chance to explore the professional aspects of his character in a plot that involves the deacon's struggling legal career. In fact, this is the first time his law office is seen (usually he works out of the Frye home). In the first law office scene, Ernie interacts with a dim-witted Irish detective and takes on the case of a woman accusing her husband of infidelity. Of course, the husband is actually faithful, but Ernie mistakenly tells his client that the rumors are true. These misunderstandings are ironed out, and then Ernie gets asked by the church to resume his seat on the board. This is not the funniest or best episode of the series but it does provide a nice change of pace for Hemsley.
