  • The three main characters (the deacon, the reverend and Thelma) each take a look at the future in fantasies that seem to be in keeping with the themes of the series.

This is a very different sort of episode. There are three main dream scenes, one for each of the three main characters of 'Amen.' As can be expected, Thelma's involves her on-going wishes to become Mrs. Gregory. There is a long Hawaiian honeymoon scene in which their relationship is slightly reversed, with him falling all over her. It's cute. The second fantasy belongs to the deacon whose lifestyle is cramped by the fact that the reverend and Thelma have been married for awhile but still live with him. The third fantsy, Reuben's dream, is actually the funniest. We see all the characters aged with wigs and makeup, including the Hetebrinks and Rolly (in a bionic hairpiece!). It's revealed that the reverend and Thelma have had many sons, and they are all morally righteous, except one that looks and acts like the deacon. I thought that was truly funny and a very clever twist.
