  • The deacon's housekeeper, Inga, is facing deportation back to Sweden, so Ernie agrees to help her by staging a phony marriage.

This is probably the best episode of season 3 of 'Amen.' It contains all the elements that make the series a classic comedy. First, there is a sense of community with how the church board works together to help the Swedish housekeeper, Inga, pull off a last-minute wedding. But then, there are the expected complications, and in order to prevent her from being deported, the deacon pretends to marry her (with Rolly posing as the presiding judge). As a result, the story turns into an all-out farce. The wedding scene itself is uproarious: Thelma uses a flower pot for a bouquet; the Hetebrinks sing a soulful 'Here Comes the Bride;' and Reuben poses as Inga's culturally challenged brother Olaf. The episode culminates in a reception at the church with members of the cast doing a Swedish-style dance. It's just a fun, fun episode and everyone seems to be having a great time filming it.
