Each season 'Amen' did a special Christmas-themed episode. This is one of the best. The entire second act is devoted to the musical performance of this gifted cast and a guest choir from St. Stephen's Baptist Church. But leading up to the concert are some very humorous arguments about whose idea is best. Thanks to Lorenzo (the final appearance of Franklyn Seales on the program), they manage to set aside their differences and work harmoniously. There are also a few cute scenes between Jester Hairston and Rosetta LeNoire, as late-in-life newlyweds Rolly and Leola. They have some very affectionate moments at the beginning of the episode, but then, they have their first argument as a married couple. Of course, they learn that it's a season of love and a season to celebrate the birth of Mary's boy child (the title of a song composed by Jester Hairston).moreless

    • Some of the songs included in the medley during the competition are: 'The Twelve Days of Christmas (Ernie's choice);' 'Go Tell It on the Mountain (Thelma's choice);' 'O Come All Ye Faithful (Amelia's choice);' and 'Mary's Boy Child (Rolly).' Earlier in the episode, we hear a solo of Cassieta's choice which is 'We Three Kings.' The medley is followed by a complete rendition of 'Silent Night' by Clifton Davis and the cast with the guest choir. The last scene features everyone at the deacon's home singing 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.'

    • The building used to indicate the exterior of the concert hall for the City Wide Annual Song Fest in this episode is actually the Shrine Auditorium located in South Central Los Angeles.

    • One of the songs sung in the Christmas medley is 'Mary's Boy Child' composed by star Jester Hairston.

    • A special credit is given at the end of the episode for the St. Stephen Baptist Mass Choir and the St. Stephen Youth Choir for their participation in the musical scenes.
