  • The deacon hires a young man that Thelma used to babysit. He tells his ex-girlfriend that he is in love with Thelma. This causes a great deal of gossip and makes the reverend jealous.

This is a fun episode that gives Anna Maria Horsford some good scenes to play. At first, Thelma is innocent about the handyman's intentions toward her; then, it becomes more serious and after a talk with her Aunt Leola (played by Rosetta LeNoire), she must get firm and spurn his advances. Meanwhile, Clifton Davis does a good job conveying the reverend's conflicted emotions about this turn of events when gossip reaches him about Thelma's supposed affair with a much younger man. Sherman Hemsley plays more of a supporting role in this episode, leaving the main action to Horsford, Davis and guest star Cuba Gooding, Jr., in days before he won the Oscar for 'Jerry McGuire.'
