  • The deacon takes over the annual holiday program when he learns it will be attended by a prominent politician and a TV crew. But then, plans change because of a major snow storm.

This is the first holiday-themed episode of 'Amen.' The series would turn out a classic Christmas show each season during its five-year run (the season 4 episode 'Thelma Frye, Dough Girl' is probably the least Christmasy). In this offering, the Hetebrinks announce that a local politician will be attending the annual Christmas program and will be joined by the media. The news goes to the deacon's head, and Sherman Hemsley has some great scenes taking over. He gets so controlling that the music director, Lorenzo Hollingsworth (played by Franklyn Seales) gives up and quits. But when a major snow storm threatens to cancel the festivities, the deacon and church board must tell the children that they will not be performing. When they go to tell the kids, they discover that the program has begun anyway. The children do a great job, and in the end, they are joined by the cast for a rousing version of 'Away in a Manger.'
