American Dad!

what i liked- Steve needing the lady to walk with him across the street, Steve calling francine 'mama bear', Steve crying and calling Stan's cell, Stan threatening to 'kill him' if he told Francine he was the one bullying him, the way Steve got back at Stan, the principal on the tape drinking the beer, Francine walking out on teaching Steve after only a couple hours with him,amongst other things.

decent episode. it started off strong but got a little boring the more it went. B+ or so is going to be myfinal grade

I love this show, but over the years I've sometimes disliked the occasional episode where I felt it got preachy over something I disagree with, or when the writer's let their politics have too much sway over the story. This ep, however, disappointed me in an entirely new way, much to my surprise.



Normally, when you strip away the writer's social leanings and/or politics, the underlying message or moral of the story is a good one, something everyone with a heart and conscience can agree on. But, for the first time ever, the message was just awful. Stan, in his own buffoonish way, tries to teach his son how to face his fears, and overcome obstacles. And the moral of the story? It's ok to bypass your responsibilities and foist the obstacles onto someone else's shoulders, so long as you've got the cash. Yep, I kid you not. And no, I'm not talking about a story teaching you to rely on friends or be willing to accept help, or anything good like that. Just a story about finding ways to remain a loser without looking like one in public.



What a damned shame.

American Dad again amazes and dazzles me bringing us yet another great episode this season. It wasn't better though than the last two episodes before it, which were kinda genius, but it still managed to surprise me pleasantly since Roger was barely featured in this episode. I loved it but something did bring it down a notch and that was Hailey's and Reginald's storyline. Jesus, the boredom and stupidity of this plot were honestly quite a downer. I really hope Reginald doesn't show up again anytime soon (and by that I mean all of season 5 and season 6).



In this episode, the main plot was centered on Steve and Stan. When the latter becomes really annoyed with the former's passive, submissive and non-violent behavior, in order to toughen Steve up a bit, Stan becomes his own son's bully.



This was a pretty damn genius move on the creators part because it made great comedy relief and, well, it fit perfectly with Stan's character. We also find out that Stan had a really tough bully in high school himself, one named Stelio Kontos. But after Francine found out that Stan had been bullying her little boy, all hell broke loose. I mean, who didn't find themselves laughing out loud when she crashed Stan's SUV? Afterward Francine tried to train Steve in the basement for a while but she couldn't do more than 2 hours or so. He's just such a wimpy kid.



After Francine quits training him, Steve finds another tactic that turns out to be quite smart and useful. He locates Stelio on Facebook and hires him to beat up Stan. And it worked so well. That entire fight sequence ended up being quite a highlight of the episode thanks to Stelio's having his own amazing theme song. Roger also appears briefly but only to announce his now affinity, crime scene photography. And well, he stole every scene.



And now Hailey's storyline. Jesus Christ, this bored me to tears. While Hailey and Reginald were on a date at the Carnival, all of a sudden Jeff shows up, Hailey is intrigued and leaves with him. Blah. Well, Jeff is ten times better than that freaking Koala. I couldn't bring myself to ever care about anything that Hailey, Reginald or Jeff did and I won't start now. But something good if not hilarious did came out of this plot. This quote:



"Jeff: How's Yerhujeva Gina?



Hailey: Oh, Yerhujeva? She's good. She's back in Croatia for the winter with the rest of the Gina family."



This was just so random, I didn't even notice it the first time around. I just love it.

Not as funny as last week's episode, but still a pretty good episode of American Dad tonight. Outside of the Stan and Roger scenes, Stan and Steve have the best chemistry on the show and that is was apparent here tonight.



The scenes with Stan bullying Steve were great, not in the typical "smart" American Dad style of humor, but just in a pure funny kind of way.



Roger's storyline was just dumb. Not going to comment any further on that.



And the koala continues to provide a solid amount of laughs every week. Looking forward to seeing where his relationship with Hayley goes.
