Stan is excited about finally building his dream car: a DeLorean. Francine encourages him to include Steve, so the two take a road trip in search of doors for the sports car. The trip veers off-track when there is a mad dash across the country to get the last set of doors available.

What I liked: the Back to the Future references/mentions, David Blaine/Criss Angel, Stan and Steve bonding, amongst other things.

Usually when a TV show does a parody, or references a movie, I have no idea of the reference because I have not seen the movie. But luckily, I have seen Back to the Future, and so a lot of the jokes I got, like the 88 miles line, the officer talking about the Delorean being a time machine, amongst other things, so good episode overall. The sub plot was kind of boring but the main plot was really good so my final grade is going to be an A+.
  • wow family guy sucked like it has been doing this season and american dad is almost ready to replace family guy. this is the best season ever

I like how this season has so much character developement. Stan is slowly changing and is learning so much this season. he made up with his dad spent more time with his son. I especially like the back to the future reference XD. I love the car it looks so cool i would actually but one like that XD. Haley has become meg which is kinda weird but they both have the same personality except that haley is hot. I loved the fake french accents and the nice costumes lamo. also wierd that chris angel was in this ep. also was he always that tan? i thought he was whiter than that i don't remember him ever being darker than me. poor clouse i feel really bad that he didn't get much of any screen time this ep but i guess it wasn't needed. oh and the andy the rabbit and the turtle thing was very good way better then peter sadistically killing a cat. family guy used to be so good but now its really bad and american dad seems to have surpassed it. I'm sick of family guy this season its been really bad and if it wasn't licensed for another 3 seasons i almost think fox would cancel it. I wish they'd finish this season already and i'm so sick of brian being the puppet for seths political veiws in every episode this season. I want the old brian and stewie back.

It's such a shame that this show has to live in the shadow of Family Guy. The fans of Family Guy dismiss it as a ripoff while the haters of Family Guy unfairly compare it to Family Guy. American Dad is so much more witty and funny - if anything, Family Guy should be in IT's shadow.

American Dad is also deceptively deep as "The Delorean Story-an" demonstrates. The entire episode was all about Steve and Stan trying to look for something to build a relationship while they were looking for a door for a Delorean only to find out that the quest to find that missing piece is what is bringing them together. Is the missing piece really the door or that commonality they wish to feel? The symbolism is delicious.

Every now and again American Dad proves to be much more than just a distant cousin to Family Guy, and does so not through just laughter, but through characters and engaging plots. Dolorean Story-An, which sees Stan and Steve try to connect (once more!) as father and son, is one of those special outings for the series. Combining more than a handful of classic, laugh-out-loud gags with a story that is well paced with plenty of humble characterisations, this week we see American Dad at its finest. Sure, there's the somewhat hit and miss subplot of Roger and crew trying to fill time while the dudes are gone, but it's such a minor tangent that it really isn't worth musing over. Instead, the episode's main focus and enjoyment comes from Stan and Steve's Back to the Future story that has nothing to do with Back to the Future aside from a Delorean. Not only is it a hilarious adventure, but it's got plenty of heart, and thrills to boot. So if someone asks why they should watch American Dad if they already subscribe to the crude shenanigans of Family Guy-point them this way.
  • Definetely a good 'time'...

Back to the Future was a great movie, and among one of the most iconic things in the movie was the time traveling car. A Delorean. Turns out Stan has been putting somewhere between 12000-45000 dollars and six years into building on from scratch. Of course Stan has no idea about the movie, but Steve of course does and the two of them embark on a roadtrip to go find the last piece to finish the car. Stan and Steve always are worth a good laugh and the painful akwardness that the two of them share in this episode is no exception. (I always though I-Spy was fun.) Eventually the trip does run into a tough spot when the car goes off a cliff, through a combination of blowing bubbles while driving, and the balance of yin and yang. Stan becomes a victim of 'desert crime' and loses his money and his pants, and then realizes that someone else is after the door too. The CIA airlifts Stan's Delorean and a new pair of pants to Stan and it turns into a drag race between the three of them, compelete with many Back To The Future jokes. This was a great story line and was very well crafted similiar to the E.T. Parody episode. The B-Story was fairly decent as well. Back at the house Roger, Francine and Hayley try to find some sort of farce to participate in. Hayley has kind of become the Meg of the Smith household, though maybe not as bad as Meg has it. When it becomes appearent that Hayley is no fun, Roger and Francine decide to crash a French party. Unforunately, Roger can't speak French and causes problems at the party. It was a decent side story, with a fairly linear ending.

A very good episode overall. There were some very classic moments in the episode, such as what happened to the tortoise and the hare, and the Smith Family getting Mind Freaked was pretty funny to. You don't have to have the need to dry hump a Delorean door to appriciate this episode.
  • Stan and Steve bond on the road.

This is what an American Dad episode should be like. A heavy amount of Stan jokes, and some Stan and Steve back and forths, with Roger's goofiness being kept to a minimum.

Don't get me wrong, I love Roger, but he excels when he is just being himself instead of dressing up as a number of insane characters. His mockery of Steve and Klaus at the beginning was his high point, and you know why? Because he didn't have a wig on.

But the scenes with Francine and him in periodic clothing were minimal and we got a lot of great Stan lines. Even Steve's remark about how unlikely it is that someone would pick up a half naked 43 year old and his boy companion was great.

American Dad just needs to follow a basic plot, such as Stan and Steve pursuing a door for their Delorean, to have a great episode. When they try to be too original or cutting edge the show flops.
  • Another one of my favorites and yet again season 4 gives us another amazing episode.

This episode is just so hillarious like when Stan thought Steve was 7 and Steve said that hje was 14 and Stan said I don't think so. Also Roger again was hillarious like when he said that Steve would be on the cover of rejected kids monthly and when he mocked Hayley for being no fun. Also it was hillarious when Steve said that he and Stan both liked Back To The Future and stan had no idea what he was talking about and when Stan and Steve were hich hiking and Steve said that he doubts someone would pick up a 42 year old with his pants off and a 14 year old boy. Also the Turtoise and Hare thing so funny and I have have not laughed so hard at a part in a long time. This episode was better then 420 the Family Guy that aired on the same night as this.

This episode was an enjoyment to watch not for it's main story, which they seem to incorporate as much 80's nostalgia as possible in American Dad and Family Guy, but it's side stories.

Believe it or not I was following along and all of a sudden the main story went out the window when Andy the Hare was run down by steve's head.

It was so freakin funny yet sad that the Tortoise buddy was run down and the acting added to it.

The Ending just added to that when he dragged his Andy accross the finish line.

These side stories are hilarious and I'm still waiting for the continuation of Rogers Golden, Jewel encrusted poop story...When is that going to be?

As well, I'm suprised Turlington wasn't in this one some how...He's one of my favorite characters.

Anyway..I don't see how anymore story can be formed around Andy and the Tortoise but if the writers can, they should.

    A+
