American Dad!

It's Roger's birthday, and he begs to be roasted, but when he ends up devastated by the jokes, he vows to pull his life together. Things take a turn for the worse when Roger takes it one step too far, causing the Smith family to go on the run. I thought this was a great episode of American Dad. I remember seeing this episode when it first premiered and I thought it was enjoyable. Funny moments include Roger going to hit puberty when he turns 1,601, Roger speaking a Latin accent, the guy flipping off Bullock, the jokes that the Smiths told to Roger, then he gets upset, the family watching the porn channel, Roger's speech, "Who's the (bleep) is Elaine?" after she was heard on the radio, the message, "AY, AY, Captain""This isn't a boat"", and the ending.The only thing that I didn't like was how Roger acted after the first 10 minutes and it got a tad boring. Overall, an excellent season 5 finale of American Dad. 9.5/10

Roger wants a roast for his birthday, where Stan, Francine, Hailey and Steve make jokes at his expense. However, his feelings are hurt and he then vows to kill them. What i liked- the roast scene, the Smiths figuring out that Roger is indeed trying to kill them, the ending of the episode, the plot itself, etc. The only thing that ruined it was the final 5 minutes, with Roger making the Smiths roast each other. I dunno, I just would have liked a better resolution. That said, the rest of the episode was pretty good, I felt. B+ or so as my final grade

You know you are witnessing a good episode when Francine delivers the best line of the night. Her comparing Stan to Jeremy Piven's undeserved ego, the arrogance Sean Penn, and the hypocrisy of Rush Limbaugh was sheer genius and definitely had me laughing out loud, as the kids say.



There were times when this episode was a bit mousy and unexciting but as a whole this was a pretty good storyline that ended the season unifying the family, whilst providing some laughs along the way. That is about as good as you can ask for from a show titled American Dad.

Here's my honest opinion: this season of American Dad! will probably be remembered for its lack of good jokes and its average plots. I'm not saying every episode was bad, but most of them just lacked that classic humor the older episodes had. In this episode, Roger desires to be "roasted" for his 1,601st birthday, but when the Smiths "roast" him, he feels offended and plots to kill the Smiths. The Smiths go where they think Roger can't go...to outer space. Turns out Roger was holding on to the space shuttle and thus enabling him to continue his plot to kill the Smiths. After some Stan-changing-his-panties and "The Sign" by Ace of Base playing in the background, Roger forces the Smiths to "roast" each other. When Roger sees that they are ejoying "roasting" each other, Roger realizes that the reason he felt offended by the jokes wasthat he didn't feel like part of the Smith family. The family later reassures him that he is indeed a part of the family and then Roger decided not to kill the Smiths.



Though I enjoyed the plot (for the most part), the episode was lacking humor. Unfortunately this problem has repeated itself throughout this season of American Dad! Will I still be a fan of the show? Absolutely. But next season, I am hoping there will be fewer emotional Roger scenes, fewer dramatic plots, and more humor in the style of the great American Dad! seasons before this one.
