  • Christmas review 17: Good episode, but very overrated

    7.0
    "Good"
Lot of people seems to praise this episode. In my opinion, I didn't enjoy this episode very much. For me, I thought it was good, but that great. Plus, I think the episode was boring towards the end. I don't know what to say for this episode, but the only parts that were funny are the janitor not raptured at all, Steve's heaven, Stan trying to get raptured, Jesus Christ part (fake and real), and a couple more. Overall this episode was decent. I don't think it's considered a Christmas episode because it relies on rapture, but I reviewed it anyway because the first half take place in Christmas. 7/10
  • American Dad is not quite as bad as Family Guy.

Not quite as bad as Family Guy. I can watch about 2 or 3 and then want to turn it off. With Family Guy I only have to watch less than 5 minutes of it then it goes off. My favorite American Dad episode was the one where Stanley was visited by the ghost of Christmas past and he changes the future. It is not a favorite programme. I can stand some of it though as with Family Guy NON! I also saw the one where Stanly got this hearing machine and could hear his neighbours saying nasty things about him.
  • Very very overrated.

Stan is upset when he cannot find his family a good seat for a Christmas Day church service, but that proves to be the least of his worries when Stan discovers that he, Roger, and Francine are the last people left on Earth and everyone else has ascended into Heaven as part of the Biblical end of days.

  • For an "American Dad" episode, this episode was just unwatchable and poor to even watch

I like "American Dad"... I mean, it's not my favorite program and not the greatest I've ever seen but it's pretty enjoyable. This episode... unfortunately... was not a very good episode in my opinion. I'm sure all of the loyal "American Dad" are being loyal with this episode or they just like it but I honestly thought the storyline to this episode just kinda... what's the word?.... SUCKED. This episode did have a few funny parts but not even for me to even to like this episode. For "American Dad"'s standards, this is probably one of the worst episodes I've ever seen. The only parts I did laugh at was when the janitor didn't get raptured, only one person from Las Vegas getting raptured, Francine telling Stan "Go to heaven", Steve's heaven, Stan talking to the fake Jesus, and then Jesus Christ (real) threw the yellow cross at the Anti-Priest. Other than those parts, I really didn't laugh at anything else. The storyline of being captured and it's up to Jesus and Stan to save her was just pretty lame to me. The Anti-Priest was also kinda annoying. I also just hated the ending when Stan died and he went up to heaven. Sorry fans but this episode was just poor and almost everything about this episode was just unwatchable and the ending is definitely the worst part about this episode. Overall, this is probably one of the worst "American Dad" episodes I've ever seen. 4/10

what i liked: the ending, Stan rescuing Francine from the Anti Christ, the fact that the priest did not go up to Heaven, Steve's holy room in Heaven, the anti-christ himself, etc.

Good episode. It had a great plot and was very funny. The last few minutes seemed more 'epic' then usual but it certainly paid off, and i give this episode an A+ as my final grade

  • Another great installment of the American Season 5.

I'm very surprised that American Dad christmas specials always find a way to be new and exciting. I thought that the plot and story were very funny.

I'm at a lose to see how the 'Stan gets close to breaking up with Francine' part of the episodes aren't getting boring. They've implanted it into so many recent episodes, and yet I'm not bored of it because the writers have managed to make a great story out of it.I'm so glad that American Dad isn't dying along with Family Guy. I also hope that great episodes like this continue in the next series. Thumbs up!
  • Didn't you hear the puppets?! Demons are coming to rape our skulls!

As usual for the Christmas episodes, Stan is whining about how he's a better Christian than everyone else, and gets mad when they're unable to get good parking at the church due to the "fair weather" Christians. When they finally get in, Stan and Francine can't find anywhere to sit, so to cheer him up, Francine has sex with him in the janitor's closet. When they finish up, the two are horrified to learn that the Rapture has started, as naked people begin ascending up to Heaven, including Steve, Hayley, and apparently Greg.

Stan and Francine learn about the Rapture from "Ricky the Raptor", including the bit about Jesus coming back to wage war against the Anti-Christ for seven years during Armageddon. Stan is still obsessing over why he hasn't been raptured yet, since he's SUCH a better Christian. Roger, who has been making fun of Christianity, is horrified when he learns that it's all real and begins trying to rebuild his spaceship. Steve and Hayley, on the other hand, are brought to their own personal Heavens by Michelle, the angel from the last Christmas episode.

News breaks out that Jesus has returned, and Stan tries to convince him to rapture him, blaming his sins entirely on Francine. Angered at Stan's selfishness, Francine throws her wedding ring at him and leaves. Sadly for Stan, "Jesus" turns out to be a phony who has him strip in a back alley. He returns home, expecting Francine to forgive him, only to learn that she found the REAL Jesus, and is now dating Him.

Seven years later, the world has become an action movie wasteland of red skies, burning buildings, corpse-strewn highways, bikers, and a shattered moon. Stan has lost an eye and a hand, replaced with a hook, and has Klaus mounted on his trailer wall. Jesus finds Stan and asks him for help; Francine's been abducted by the Anti-Christ. Stan is still mad at "Commander Jesus" for stealing Francine, but helps in exchange for getting raptured. The two contact Roger in order to get to the Anti-Christ's HQ, the former UN building. His ship's been rebuilt, but Roger doesn't have anything to power it. Jesus reveals that He has the infamous "jewel encrusted golden turd" which was found at the "Battle of Boca Raton", which they use to power the ship. And of course, Roger manages to crash the ship at the UN.

Jesus states that the lair of the Anti-Christ is where everythings Anti-Him, including Francine tied and gagged in Nativity Scene, on the ceiling. Amidst many bad action puns, the Anti-Christ is finally revealed... as a lanky, hyperactive freak with a high-pitched, grating voice, bald, and wearing a costume that looks like he robbed the Riddler. The Anti-Christ is the opposite of Jesus in every way, spewing such sayings as "Condemn them Mother, for they now EXACTLY what they do!" and has poor craftsmanship skills, evident by the crappy trap he built for Jesus, Stan, and Francine. Jesus snaps the Anti-Christ's neck with his legs, and Stan sets a bomb to blow up the place. But the Anti-Christ's still alive long enough for him to try and shoot Jesus. Stan takes the bullet, and reveals to Francine that he kept their wedding rings. He tells them to get out, and allows himself to be blown up with the building.

In Heaven, Michelle shows Stan to his own personal Heaven, which is... the beginning of the episode, only this time Stan tells Francine she's not dressed like a whore and they kiss, ending with a scene of a still mounted Klaus wearing a Santa hat.

There are just SO many things wrong with this episode, including Roger's infamous line "Didn't you hear the puppets?! Demons are coming to rape our skulls!" One of the best scenes has Stan and Francine watching Ricky the Raptor, a dinosaur hand puppet, explaining about the Rapture in a cheery voice, while scenes of what a violent and bloody battle between Jesus and the Anti-Christ would be like. It's as if they stole it out of a 90s comic book. It then ends with the logo for "A Christian Kids Production!" followed by a cross on skates with sunglasses going "Stay coooooool!"
  • The one episode of American Dad I'll remember decades from now!

Well, as far as American Dad goes, this is the best I've seen ever! Well written, spectacular artwork and genuinely funny, this is the best of the best of American Dad! This one ranks right up there with such classics as the unforgettable 'Turkeys Away' episode of WKRP in Cincinnati. They just pulled out all the stops when they made this episode. A delightful surprise in what is turning out to be an extraordinarily good season for the entire series. MacFarlane and crew have every right to be proud of this one, and this episode definitely deserves a place in my permanent film collection
  • Great symbolism, unique art style and an amusing story makes for a great episode.

I would have to say off the top of my head, this is the best American Dad episode I've seen. I loved the context of the episode, visualizing (partially) what Christians believe is eventually going to happen. In addition to this, the art style was drastically different than any MacFarlane shows. Typically I'm not into the action/anime kind of stuff, but I really liked it and would be interested in a show with that style / more action if it were similar to the AD episode. My favorite part of the episode, however, would have to be Rodger's reactions to the biblical beliefs held by humans - I only wish more individuals thought like this.
  • Hilarious episode.

Well, that was certainly a unique episode of American Dad. The whole Jesus coming back and rapture storyline felt like something South Park would do, not American Dad, but it really worked tonight, with everything from the lame action movie cliche quotes like: "It's raining wise men, hallelujah!" to the lack of Hayley, Steve and Klaus tonight.

I have no doubt that this episode offended some people, but if you were able to look past that, this was a really good episode of television and one of American Dad's best installments this season. Now I hope they tackle political and religious issues on a more regular basis because I really liked tonight's show.
