  • Superb with a couple problems

    9.0
When Stan goes to Atlantic City for a bachelor party and is shunned by his so-called best friend, Roger steps in and becomes Stan's new sidekick. Their friendship goes to a whole new level, but when they return home and face Francine, Stan realizes that what happens in Atlantic City doesn't necessarily stay there. Meanwhile, Hayley and Steve team up to break up a good-looking couple. I thought this episode was superb. I think both plots are equal (meaning they are both superb, but had its problems). Roger was getting annoying and the subplot was getting a little boring in 1-2 scenes. But anyway, this episode was funny and it had humor such as Roger ending up at the luage while Stan point a gun at him, Steve and Hayley trying to break a couple by doing pranks, Stan and Roger drunk at the pool, Francine trying to know what happened, Stan and Roger run into Francine twice, the game show, and the ending. Overall, a superb episode of American Dad. 9/10moreless

Overall, both plots were great, although Steve's plot was hilarious

  • Stan and Roger have their friendship to a whole new level in Atlantic City

    9.5
I thought that this was an excellent episode of "American Dad" and it was pretty funny. The beginning was funny when Stan and Francine were about to go out of town and then Roger asked Francine about him spending time with him and then Roger pops out of Stan's luggage, Stan points a gun at Roger. Stan and Roger doing being drunk at Atlantic City was pretty funny. The subplot with Haley and Steve trying to break up a couple so they can go out with them was very funny to watch. It was very funny when Stan and Roger run over Francine twice. It was very funny when Stan and Roger went on the game show "Best Buddies" when they need the money to pay for Francine at the hospital. The end of Haley and Steve's subplot was hilarious when one guy gets his face burned and the one girl gets caught by a crocodile. Roger telling Stan to guess from his heart of Roger's favorite movie is and Stan guessed "White Chicks" was hilarious. The very ending was very funny as well. The only thing I didn't like was the jakoozie scene with Stan and Roger... it just seemed a little disturbing. Overall, an excellent episode of "American Dad". 9.5/10moreless

Roger and Stan bond in Atlantic City, and their friendship reaches new heights. But soon they get in a fight that results in Francine going to the hospital and needing a really expensive surgery that Stan can't pay for. They go on a TV game show called Best Buddiez, but will they be able to win? Steve and Haley try to break up a couple so Steve can date the girl and Haley can date the guy. Will their plan work?

Good episode. Stan and Roger are my favorite characters, and I liked how they became friends, and I liked Roger saving Francine at the end. The sub plot was kind of boring, but rest assured, it did have some good parts. A- or so is my final grade for this episode.moreless
  • Stan and roger get very close being buddies. steve and kaylie work together providing some of the funniest stuff in the episode. and francine gets ran over.

    9.0
Its great to have new episodes back. This is a great start to the new season and this was a hilarious episode.

Stan and roger were great together. that scene in the hot tub was great. it involves probing, lol. great stuff. i couldnt stop laughing. stan then, this was totally obvious, gets weirded out and starts acting like the guy who regrets it in those stupid teen dramas. roger plays the role of the girl in the relationship and francine gets suspicious. francine gets ran over by stan and roger saves the day by probing the doctor to get the medical knowldge to perform the surgery.

Steve and kaylie were also great together. their plot was funny and the park scene was hilarious.

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • When Francine is putting things in Stan's suitcase at the start of the episode, Roger's wine glass appears and disappears between shots.

    • When Roger wears Stan's "Federal Boobie Inspector" shirt in the car, the "s" in "Inspector" is missing.

    • The hosts of Best Buddiez! were "famous best buddies" Peter Scolari and Wendy Joe Sperber. Although Wendy Joe Sperber was in fact part of the show Bosom Buddies, Peter Scolari and Tom Hanks were the best buddies referenced in the title.

    • How did Stan and Roger leave Atlantic City so quietly when Roger lost his disguise overnight?

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Old Woman: How much for the porcelain poodles?
      Stan: $178,000.
Old Woman: I may be back!

    • Peter: Okay, Terry, what is Greg's favorite appetizer?
Terry: Oh, that's easy. It's... potato skins!
Greg: No, it's wasabi tuna in a raddichio sauce.
Terry: Even I think that's gay.

    • Dr. Gupta: When you ran over your wife - twice - it caused her brain to detach from her central nervous system. She's what we, in the medical profession, call "a husk."
      Roger: I've heard of that.
Dr. Gupta: We can reattach her brain, but it's an experimental procedure your insurance won't cover.
Stan: That's my wife. I don't care how much it is, I'll pay it!
      Dr. Gupta: It's $178,000.
Stan: What if I don't need her to talk?

    • Dr. Gupta: Hello, I'm Dr. Gupta. Yes, I'm a woman. I suppose you have a problem with that.
Stan: Uh, no. Is my wife gonna be okay?
Dr. Gupta: Are you questioning my competence?
Stan: No, I'm just concerned about my wife.
Dr. Gupta: Really? 'Cause the way you're looking at me, it seems like you're concerned with something else. (Opens her shirt and flashes Stan)

    • Stan: What the hell was that?
Francine: (After being run over by Stan) I'm not hurt! It's a miracle!
Roger: (Inside the car; to Stan) I think you're still on top of it. Back up.
(Stan backs up and runs over Francine again)
Stan: Oh, my God! I hit Francine!
Roger: We should probably leave a note.

    • Stan: Why the hell can't you just let this go?!
Roger: Because you were my first! (Cries)
      Stan: I had no idea.
Roger: I wanted a buddy, but now I never want to see you again! (Leaves car)
(Stan starts to drive away; Roger comes back)
Roger: You were supposed to come after me!
Stan: What?! You crazy psycho-bitch! Leave me alone!

    • Stan: Bobo, you crazy ol' herpes spreader! There's Lieutenant Herpes! Or is it Captain Herpes now? (Laughs)
Bobo: Stan? I haven't seen you since college. What are you doing here?
Stan: What do you mean? I'm here for my best friend's bachelor party! I got your eVite.
Bobo: Oh, my secretary must have accidentally sent that.
Stan: "Accidentally sent..." Get outta here, you crazy ol' herpes spreader!
Bobo: Will you please stop calling me that?
Stan: Oh, I got a present. It's an Asian sex doll. Huh, remember in college? You were always talking about climbing the Great Wall of Vagina? (Laughs)
Bobo: Uh, Stan, this is my future father-in-law, Reverend Hideki Obayashi.
      Roger: Oh...
(Roger & Stan get kicked out)

    • Francine: Come on, Roger. He'd never let you go. Roger: Oh, I can be very persuasive. (Scene changes; Stan opens his luggage; Roger jumps out) Roger: Surprise! (Stan points handgun at Roger) Roger: (Crying) Look in your heart! I'm praying to you! Look in your heart! You can't do this. It's not right. It's a wrong situation. I couldn't help it, it's my nature. Somebody hands me an angle, I play it. I don't deserve to die for that! Do you think I do? This is not us! This is some hop dream! I'm praying to you! I can't die! I can't die out here in the woods! Stan: What the hell are you talking about? Roger: It's from my favorite movie, Miller's Crossing. Bravo, Joel and Ethan Coen. I mean, there are some proud parents, huh? Some nachas for the Coens?

    • Roger: (gasps) You got a best buddy? Can I be your second best buddy?
Stan: Let's see, how do I hang an air freshener on this? You are a total waste of space. I often dream of killing you. (inhales) Ah, Mountain Pine.

    • Stan: All right! I'm packed and ready to party! Party time! Enjoy your last look at my ass, 'cause I'm gonna party it off!

    • Greg: That clip was provided by the fun new game show Best Buddiez!
Terry: That's right, Greg. And next week, Best Buddiez! is taping right here in Langley Falls with a grand prize of $200,000.
Greg: And your favorite anchor-partners are gonna be contestants. Because after all, we are just buddies... according to the government. And Terry's father.

    • Roger: Stan might be an insensitive feelings-hurter, but he'd never cheat on you.
Francine: It's not Stan I'm worried about. It's the female "entertainment" I don't trust. Men throw a little cash out 'em, they'll do anything. Then sometimes when you're on the floor with another girl, guys'll throw money, then pick it up and throw the same singles out there again. Like I'm an idiot. Like I don't have peripheral vision.
      (Awkward silence)

  • NOTES (10)

    • Captain Monty's eye patch is over his left eye in the "Best Buddies" show, however, it was previously shown covering his right eye.

    • This episode premiered on [adult swim] on June 15, 2008.

    • This was the first episode in production for season 2, but aired in season 1.

    • Music: When Stan places the phony phone call to Hayley's love interest, he instructs the popular guy to go to the 'West End' of the mall. The entire message is in the popular girl's voice except for a one-second long musical clip. Stan drops in a sample from the 'Pet Shop Boys' hit from the 1980's titled 'West End Girls'. Also, the song played during the montage where Stan and Roger get drunk and have fun is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. Furthermore, the song played on the boombox that Klaus cries to is "Circle" by Edie Brickell. The line Stan sings while getting probed by Roger is the start of The Star-Spangled Banner, the American national anthem.

    • Channel 7 (AU) airdate: May 25, 2006.

    • Barb Hansen, the realtor from "Threat Levels" who was sent to Guantanamo Bay, returns in this episode and apparently did have her hands cut off.

    • Wendie Jo Sperber recorded her lines just before her death in late 2005. Fittingly, her guest appearance was opposite her old "Bosom Buddies" co-star (and lifelong friend) Peter Scolari.

    • Guest stars Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli voice characters in this episode who are a couple. Garth and Facinelli are a real life couple whom married in 2001.

    • The song playing while Stan and Roger were living it up was "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.

    • Langley Falls Post front page headline: "Confused Iranian President Denies Hollow Crust Pizza."

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • Fatal Attraction
When Stan wants to hang up on Roger, he says the famous line from the film Fatal Attraction, "I will not be ignored, Dan." Dan was switched to Stan.

    • Gypsy
When Stan has a yard sale in order to raise money for Francine's expensive hospital bills, he tries to sell Roger's porcelain dogs. Roger mentions that their names are "Gypsy Rose Lee" and "Mama Rose", a reference to the main characters in the musical Gypsy.

    • The Newlywed Game
Best Buddiez!, the game show featured in this episode, is a parody of the show.

    • Bosom Buddies: Hosts
The hosts of Best Buddiez! are introduced as America's favorite Bosom Buddies, Peter Scolari and Wendy Jo Sperber.
These two both appeared in the show Bosom Buddies. The main characters of the show were played by Scolari and Tom Hanks (who is obviously too famous now to host a junky entertainment show).

    • Episode Title: Roger 'n' Me
While the episode appears to share its title with the 1989 Michael Moore documentary Roger & Me, the deliberate shortening of the 'and' to 'n' forms a joke based on a British term for sexual intercourse, thus cleverly describing the plot of the episode.
