Stan has had enough of Roger's antics! When he calls Roger out, Roger claims he has been sent to Earth to determine the fate of mankind. Stan challenges him to prove it, and is tickled pink when he learns Roger's real purpose for being on Earth. Roger struggles to get a grip on reality until a fateful turn of events helps put things in perspective. 7 out of 10

What I liked: Stan leaving a voicemail message, and we think it is to Steve, but turns out to be for Toshi, Steve asking if Barry or Snot got a boner when he was hit, and he proceeds to walk out of the lunchroom with people staring at him, the ending of the episode, Stan and Roger communicating in a positive way…

Good episode. The Toshi/Steve plot was really good. I felt bad for Roger and it is always nice when you can feel bad for a cartoon character, especially one who is usually a jerk. Good episode overall and my final grade is a B- or so.

American Dad continues to impress with its humor and heart, no matter how off-kilter that heart appears to be. After thinking that he was "The Decider," an alien who decides whether Earth is worthy to continue existing, Roger discovers that he was little more than a crash dummy for a spaceship company and is robbed of his self-importance.

Although you wouldn't think it, "Weiner of our Discontent" is a character study of Roger, getting down to what makes Roger Roger and then stripping that away to see what happens -- and it's the birth of an utterly pathetic creature indeed.

It was touching, in an off kilter kind of way as well, to see Stan restore Rogers horrible personality purely out of kindness.

    Great episode.
  • Another really good episode.

This episode is really funny and some hillarious parts are when they showed Roger in his past and he budged into everthing and got free stuff because he thought he has big stuff going even though he doesn't and it was hillarious when Steve pretended to be a gorrila to hind something and this episode had a great main storyline and another hillarious part is when Stan is dying and he tryed to give Stan his shot after an allergic reaction and it was empty and Roger was oblivious to how bad Stan's allergic reaction really was. This episode was better then We Love You Conrad the Family Guy episode that aired the same night as this.

Weiner of our Discontent is a rare example of American Dad's ability to make its story and characters outshine the broad humour that pops up as a result of those elements. Where its distant cousin Family Guy will often go overtly in the opposite direction, it is this distinct difference that often makes American Dad feel like the original show that it is. With that being said however, Weiner is still a highly amusing episode with some great gags (Groundhog Day, anyone?) and farce, but it is the central stories that are king here. Detailing Roger's entitled-ass syndrome which has been detailed over the past four seasons as a complex derived from his delusion that he is a Decider (an alien sent to decide the fate of humanity), the episode offers some great characterisation for Roger that has been sorely missing since day one. This coupled with some nice Stan moments and a few spots for each of the other characters (even Klaus gets a good moment) plus a brilliant ending, more than makes for one of the season's best "small-time" episodes.

After a surprisingly good episode of Family Guy, the Animation Domination comedy block continued with another great episode of American Dad. The show has really been nothing short of superb this season and I am glad it is coming back for a fifth.

This was a Roger-centric episode, and to some that would result in an immediate disdain for it. Roger has been a bit annoying as of late, but this was at least a temporary breakthrough and reemergence of the hilarious nature of his character. Having Stan there to bounce jokes off each other surely helped and I loved the Family Guy like minute of laughing after Roger's true life mission was revealed.

I'm sad that there's only a few more ADs this year.
  • A better than average American Dad.

American Dad seems to be having a pretty good season so far, and 'Weiner of our Discontent' is one of the better episodes. Rodger the Alien is one of this series iconic characters, and I love it that they expanded on his history and original mission in this episode. The writers should consider taking this a little further in future episodes. I'd personally love it if they made an episode where some of Rodger's buddies came flying down for a visit, got drunk and nasty and drove Stan crazy trying to keep their drunken antics secret in the name of national security. Episodes like this one that focus on Rodger tend to be the funniest.
