  • Someone should tell Spud, mimes dont talk.

    9.7
A intresting episode that told us a bit more about our comic relief, Spud. But I never would of guessed that he was a genuis. This is the same guy collects belly-button lint.

The episode is about when Spud is assighned to a school for geniuses, which is bad for him seeing that he hides his smartness. but things get worse when he finds out that the school is not all it seems to be.

But of course this still connects Jake and mystical realm protecting and you will see a little "Dragon Up" in this episode. This episode is really funny so It's a great episode to see.moreless
  • Great episode. Spud was funny.

    10
This was a great episode. I love Spud. He's funny. Always happy when he's the main character of an episode. I wish there were more of him. Could have had more action but I like Pandaras. He was great when he had that beauty pagent. The mime stuff was funny and I liked all of the other kids at the school. Missed Ms. Trixie. Maybe I like the other characters more than Jake. And I missed Rose. Always like Rose. • Spud goes to the Genius Institute.

    7.5
Spud goes to "The Genius Institute".

"A Befuddled Mind" is the 14th 2nd Season episode of "American Dragon: Jake Long". Disney Channel did not follow the production code.

Anyway, in this episode we discover that Spud is a genius...well, actually we know that already. But this time he gets a perfect score (thanks to Jake) government issued standardized exam at school and he soon goes to a secret "academy" named "The Genius Institute", where kids are just boring, selfish etc... In fact, we learn that Spud doesn't want to be a "genius" like that because he does not want to become a boring and annoying teenager.

Overall this episode was good, with humor (it's Spud after all) but it needed more action/fight sequences. However, Pandarus's new design is great in my opinion, way better than he was in the 1st Season (he's also more powerful).

Conclusion: It's not the best episode of ADJL, but I'm sure that Spudfans will love it.moreless

    • Spud: Thanks for walking me to my first day geniusizing.
Trixie: There's no place I'd rather be right now. Except on a date with Kyle Wilkins!! I'd sell my own mama down a river for a date with Kyle Wilkins. Okay, I mean if fine was a crime...

    • Spud: (Being a mime) I'm stuck in a box. This box has four walls. I can't get out...I'm starting to panic!!
      Jake: Okay, mimes don't talk.
Spud: I'm just a beginner!!! It takes years before you can create a wall without talking, years!!

    • Spud: Yeah, well I'd love to help you save the magical world and all... but I start my internment at the genius institute tomorrow.
Gramps: Genius institute? You? (Starts cracking up) Spud!!? (Continues to laugh and talk in chinese)

    • Gramps: Only direct descendents of Pandora, are capable of controlling the evil locked within.
      Spud: Hmm...Pandora, Pandarus. Pandora, Pandarus...
Jake: Spud, you think they're related?
Spud: No actually I was thinking those would make good names for a brother, sister team of crime fighting pandas. But related...yeah I'll go with that.

    • Eli Pandarus: Now, all I need for you is to finish the code, and I'll finally have army to take the magical world!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HAHA!!!
Spud: Really good evil laugh dude. Ooh, chills. But what makes you think I'm gonna help you! MUHHAHAHAHA!! My laugh of evil needs a little work.

    • Spud: (As a mime) I'm throwing a brick. (acts as if he is thorwing a brick) It's having no apparent effect.

    • Professor Rotwood: And, begin! Now remember, eyes forward, number 2 pencils only, and if you are in need of the restroom facilities, too bad for you!

    • Spud: Eli Pandarus! But aren't you like, totally evil?
      Pandarus: Again with the flattery!

    • Pandaras: There's nothing more exciting then the execution of a plan to take over the magical world!
Spud: I think I'll have to take your word on that.

    • Spud: What? In my book, A clean Toe, is a happy toe, ha ah!

  • NOTES (9)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • The way Jake and Trixie entered Pandarus' fortress is the same way as The Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion did in "The Wizard of Oz". Also, Jake's tail was sticking out of his disguise, just like the Lion's.

    • The title of this episode is an obvious reference to the 2001 movie, "A Beautiful Mind" (starring Russell Crowe), which was also an adaptation of a 1998 biography of the same name.
