  • Jake tries to bail on the Chinese New Year parade by watching over the shop. He ends up cursing it with bad luck when he tries to clean it.

This episode was actually pretty good. Jake doesn't want to dress up like a dragon with his family in the Chinese New Year parade, so he asks Gramps if he can watch over the shop for the day. When he agrees, Jack convinces his friends to help him clean up the shop. When Fu discovers what they did, he goes into a frenzy and claims they brought bad luck to the shop. Jake doesn't believe him. That is, until Gramps' very old priceless vase breaks. While his friends watch over the shop, Jake and Fu try to reverse the curse by getting all the junk back. In the process, Jake accidentally releases evil spirits and must catch them before they wreck the parade. This epsiode had some humor in it. Spud and Tracey were hilarious while watching over the shop. They had to prevent slime from oozing out of the walls, as well as put up with earth quakes, rain, and a vortex XD The end fight scene between Fu, Haley, and Jake against the three evil spirits was pretty awesome too.
  • Chinese New Year episode...

Jake's father has his family to participate in a Chinese New Year parade, which Jake, of course, doesn't want to be in. So, to get out of it, he convinces his Grandpa to let him, Trixie, and Spud watch the shop that day. His Grandpa tells him he needs to get in touch with his heritage, although he grew up in America, his roots are in China. While Haley and Susan are busy dealing with a Jonathan that thinks he's Chinese, Jake decides to clean up the shop to impress his Gramps. What he doesn't know is that cleaning on Chinese New Year brings bad luck. And, to top it all off, he unleashes three powerful demons! Now, he has to fix things before his Grandpa finds out, can he do it? I love the Chinese culture in this episode. And the comedy, hilarious. I don't like how Jake wears pants, however. As I am used to seeing him in half-shorts, half-pants. In the end, Jake learns something we all need to, reguardless of our race: to always keep in touch with our heritage. A wonderful Chinese New Year episode that takes a refreshing break from the Jake/Rose drama, after all, we'd have a heart attack if every episode had the drama that comes with their relationship. I highly recommend you watch Year of the Jake.

Once again, Jake avoids everything his Grandfather tells him about Chinese New Year, and ends up making everything worse. Personally, I don't celebrate Chinese New Year, but this was a great episode to celebrate it with!! I love how Jake things he's so in touch with his Chinese side of his family, even though we all know he's not!! And what I like about this episode, is that there was a lots humor! Every episode should have humor!! xDD And something uncared by most people, but I love how Jake was actually wearing pants, not those half shorts half pants stuff!! Just saying, he should wear longer pants, more often!

  • Pleasantly surprising representations of Chinese culture.

The episode is yet another example of how carefully the producers and writers research their shows. I, being a chinese myself, am familiar with all chinese New Year traditions. I admit i had my misgivings that the superstitions or traditions would be horribly mis-represented. But imagine my surprise when i tuned in and found that they have got every tradition listed there spot on. Other than one mistake (which is married persons should never get red envelopes), the rest of the show was surprising. The traditions of not cleaning on chinese new year, not washing your hair, and everything Gramps mentioned were spot on.

I say: bravo! to the producers and writers for researching the show. And i imagine that they have learnt more about chinese customs like jake.

its chinese new year and jake does want to be in the parade with his family so he decides to work at his grandpa's shop. with the help of trixie and spud they attempt to clean the shop and destroy a rare vase. meanwhile haley is at the parade with mom and dad. jake sells evrything in gramp's shop and the must get it back. bad luck follows jake all over including the broken vase in a garbage truck. after getting it all back an messanger arrive and knocks a cursed box off the shelf and demons are released. hayley see them and turns into a dragon and when the dad see's the ragon's he ask where haley is and her mom says she had to take a bathroom break. the demons are able to be recaptured with the help of fu,haley, and mr.long. the whole time this is going on the crowd is cheering becase they think it's a part of the parade.
  • During this episode, Jake learns more about his Chinese culture. Of course, once again, he doesn't listen to his grandfather, causing him to go through all kinds of trouble.

This episode was a pretty comical episode, but still, it wasn't the best. I still think it would've been better if Jake's father would have found out. But, I guess they're saving that for a later episode. Although this was a great episode, I believe that they could have made it more exciting. It's great that the audience could learn about Chinese culture too..I never knew you weren't supposed to clean during Chinese New Year.

Okay,a few parts were admittably lacking. But WHOA!The action scenes with the demons at the end were amazing! And thought of as special effects for the parade is made even more great when Jake's dad got the last one without knowing it helped saved the day.Speaking of which, not too happy about the fact he didn't really learn anything about the family however he has a strong sense of joy for the Asian culture.Opposed to Jake at first but it really isn't is fault. In the end,I think he came along with learning quite a bit about his culture. And by a bit,I mean a step above just being informed it exists.lol.Nah,he does learn alot.
  • Yet another shout out to tell how clueless Jake is and how pathic his family his! Come on people stop picking on him! And what did susan see in Jonny?

I know that some culture are more into keeping their herdiy intact then others but come on! I mean yes its important to know where you come from but in a sense we all our are race of one. Not different races but one race humans! Some of those tradisions are wacked! I mean cursed because you cleaned? I mean isn't that what people like to clean? And can John be anymore pathic? He has no idea that was his son and daughter and he LIKES Haley better then Jake? That is so &(&&*(^(*&9. What did susan see in him? She doesn't trust him enought to tell him the turth and I'm sick that Jake gets picked on! Come on people he a 13 year old kid! Stop expect him to be an adult and let him be a teenager!

Why wouldn't my review (question) be accepted until I gave a high rating? Hmmmm.
