The Mai Lai incident sparked a national interest in military orders and duty to them. Twenty men were brought to trial for the massacre, only one junior officer served under house arrest despite being convicted of murder by a military investigation.
William Calley (Army Lieutenant at My Lai): There is not a day that goes by that I don't feel remorse for what happened in My Lai. I feel remorse for the Vietnamese who were killed, their families, for the American soldiers involved and their families. I am very sorry.
