  • Best One Won {IMO}

The finale of Idol is always fun and interesting. You always wonder, which of the two will win. The one you want or the other contestant. Sometimes you may want both, but usually, for me at least, I only want one. And this season was the winner: Kris Allen. I liked Allen's personality and singing skills far more then Adam Lambert. I think the finale of this show is either a disappointment or a relief. Because if the one you want to win doesn't, you are all mad and stuff. Then the next season stars in January. Overall grade: A+, congrats on a deserving winnermoreless
  • The next American Idol 2009 is...

... KRIS ALLEN!!! That moment was probably one of the happiest to ever happen in Idol history. Over the course of the season, Kris' talent and artistry has left me a huge fan since the beginning. I believe that America got it 100% right. But before I rant on and on about the fantastic finale, let me say something about Mr. Adam Lambert. With all the talk about his sexuality, that's his own choice and has nothing to do with his singing so lets move on. What a fantastic finale that was. It was definitely better than the Grammy's. Here were the performances I simply loved:

David Cook - "Permanent" - For him to come out and sing a song he wrote for his late brother in front of millions was a very brave thing to do. What a beautiful song and an amazing guy. David Cook is a true Idol indeed.

Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper - "Time After Time" - I've always loved Allison's voice so it was great to see her back again. Her voice mixed well with Cyndi's, and I just know she'll have a promising career ahead of her.

Danny Gokey and Lionel Richie "Lionel Richie Medley" - It was sad to Danny go the previous week, but hearing him sing "Hello" was definitely worth it. He looked like he was having so much fun, and that was great to watch. Nice performance Danny!!!

Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, and Queen - "We Are the Champions" - Who doesn't love this song? Adam channeled his inner Freddy Mercury, Kris had a blast, and two veteran Queen members graced the Idol stage. What more could you ask for?

Kris Allen - "No Boundaries" - Honoring Idol tradition, when Kris won, he had to sing his new single "No Boundaries" written by Kara. I'm not going to go into the lyrics, but Kris song the song masterfully. He took cliche lyrics and transformed it into an amazing performance.

This was an amazing finale and a fairytale outcome. I wish Kris the best in his future career and I can't wait for Season 9!moreless
  • I really think the right person won

I really think the right person won and Kris Allen is an awesome talent who can write, sing and play an instrument. I like Adam Lambert as well, but I think the main reason he did not win was the scream would enter songs when it was unnecessary. I do not think it had anything to do with anything he chooses to do on his own time. That's just so people can feel victimized. I think it was an awesome show. I enjoyed 95% of all the performances. I liked Keith Urban and Kris Allen. I enjoyed how Adam opened up for Kiss with Beth. I liked them singing with Queen. I even liked Megen when she and Michael sang that Steve Martin song. Such a great show. Very enjoyable and very awesome hearing Kris's name. Adam fans thought they had it in the bag...never think he have it until you actually have it.moreless
  • Good finale, but wrong winner

I'm going to admit, I was completely 100% positive that Adam was going to win this season. He was, hands down, the best singer and regardless of how much he screeched or screamed during his performances, that doesn't change the fact that he was consistantly the best singer from week to week. Kris Allen is really good in a Jason Mraz-y type way, but when it comes to singing and overall performing, he just doesn't come close to touching Adam.

That being said, when I saw Kris won, I wasn't completely shocked. American Idol seems to not be able to get it right every few years or so. Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks both won American Idol despite being just okay and nothing more. Clay Aiken and Katherine McPhee were both better performers (and even Daughtry was better then McPhee and Hicks). And this year, despite having a slew of performers who could've won, Kris Allen just never stood out as one of those to me. But now that it's happened, I suppose it's not surprising. Adam seems to be an acquired taste, someone who's a little over theatrical. Kris Allen stands out to the girls who watch American Idol, and he has that pop kind of sound that's just catchy.

Overall, the performances were pretty good. I particularly liked the We Are The Champions one, where Kris was blown out of the water, the Cindy Lauper/Alison duet and (dare I say it) the Steve Martin song.. Okay, the song kind of sucked, but Steve Martin actually isn't too bad at songwriting.

Overall, a good finale, but really.. the person who won is NOT the best singer. But whatever, they'll both do good, I'm sure.moreless
  • Chinese Take Out and American Idol

Show opens with Ryan announcing the numbers 624 million votes with over 100 million of those from last night alone. Then the producers take a stab at each of the judges with their little quirks and idiosyncrasies. Randy Jackson says "for you for me" a lot, Cara calls everyone sweetie, Paula teleprompts intelligence, and Simon asks wot? alot. The first performance left something to be desired. In a blinding rendition of "So What?" the whole top 13 pranced around the stage. I barely looked up from my mongolian beef. The David Cook performance, was my personal favorite of the show. He wore a black arm band and sang an absolutely wonderful song called "Permanent" for his brother, who died of brain cancer. The song is for sale itunes with benefits going to ABCSquared. Go buy it. The Golden Idol Awards were put there purposely to make me reflux my egg roll a little bit. The first one (outstanding male)went to Norman Gentle...a curious little fairy with greasy glasses. The second one went to Bikini Girl, who came out looking like she had a run in with a couple of cantaloupe halves. She very deservingly got owned by Cara. The Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah performances was mediocre at best as well as the Anoop, Alexis and Jason Mraz performance. I probablly could have watched something else for that little patch of time and been none worse for the wear.

The Kris Allen/Keith Urban performance was a little unbalanced with modest Kris paired up with powerhouse Keith singing "Kiss a Girl." Oh well, they looked like they were having fun.

During the Black Eyed Peas group performance there was a nice little black out. I had my hopes up for a minute there that someone had shot Fergie...but alas...she lives on to annoy me one horrible song at a time. Cyndi Lauper and Allison - day glo hair queens. Danny Gokey and Lionel Richie sang Richie's new song, "Just Go." Gokey's attempt at Akon was miserable. I guess "All Night Long" made up for it simply by making me think of that commercial with the nocturnal animals singing this song. I think it was Mountain Dew.

So Adam comes out with some sort of contraption on his shoulders. Reminded me of the the big sphere that the circus freaks ride motorcycles in and defy gravity. This outfit defies good judgment. He moans out a little "Beth" and then KISS is forced upon us in full face. Between Gene and Adam's tongues and all of that shrieking...I was beginning to get a headache...or maybe that was just the MSG.

And the coup de grace for any hope of Adam's heterosexuality came when he flubbed on the lyrics during the group performance of Smooth with Carlos Santana. Adam: "Man it's a hot one, like seven inches in a midday sun." I think the correct lyrics are "like seven inches FROM the midday sun." I KNEW IT!!! My gaydar is NEVER wrong!

Pretty flowers with Steve Martin was pretty interesting. It was different, so for that it gets credit. Rod Stewart ascends from the back to sing "Maggie May" Stair climbing, singing, wardrobe selection, breathing for Mr. Stewart....FAIL!

And as if to build up Adam his head could get any bigger (seriously, the drops of sweat are about to go into orbit)..they do "We are the Champions" by Queen. Another attempt to downplay modest little Kris. Ah..but the jokes on you Am Idol...the people have spoken...and they want....KRIS ALLEN!!!! So a nutshell...with some crab the final result show for season 8. Congratulations Kris..and Adam...go find a corner and cry about it.moreless
