During the Black Eyed Peas performance things went quiet and the angle was changed to an American Idol symbol for about five seconds because Fergie swore in the song.

Kris Allen is the second winner to not have his entire audition fully shown on the show. The first was Kelly Clarkson.

Kris Allen is the first contestant that is married to win on the show. Ruben Studdard also won but he wasn't married at the time.
This is the first time in the shows history that the winner is awarded a trophy.
Kris Allen is the fourth male contestant to win on the show. Ruben Studdard was first, Taylor Hicks was second and David Cook was the third.
Adam Lambert is the sixth male runner-up in the series. Justin Guarini was the first, Clay Aiken was second, Bo Bice was third, Blake Lewis was the fourth and David Archuleta was the fifth.
A new record of votes was set, nearly 100 million votes were cast. Ryan announced that the season total was 624 million votes.
This is a 2 hour & 7 minute episode. This is the third finale episode to run late. The first was the finale of Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis and the second was the finale of David Cook and David Archuleta.
The episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lighting Direction (Electronic, Multi-Camera) for Variety, Music or Comedy Programming.
Fantasia is the only previous winner to not perform at all this season.
This season brought back the Golden Idol Awards. Here are the categories, nominees (with winners noted) and special information:
Outstanding Male: Wil Kunick, Michael Gurr, Elijah Scarlett, Dean-Anthony Bradford, Nick Mitchell (as Norman Gentle) (Winner). When he came on he acted like it was a big surprise and then ripped his clothes to reveal his Norman persona and sang "And I'm Not Going".
Best Attitude: Katrina Derrel (bikini girl) (Winner), Alexis Cohen and Tiffany Shedd. Katrina came out in her bikini and was asked to sing her song, "Vision of Love". Part way through Kara DioGuardi came out and at the end stripped down and was in a bikini herself. It was revealed she did it because she was told money would be donated to her charity if she did.
Outstanding Female: Chelsea Marquardt, Irene Anguelova, Dana Moreno and Tatiana Nicole Del Toro (Winner). Ryan acted like they had no time but she came on stage and sang "Saving All My Love" with security chasing her.
This is the last episode with Paula Abdul as a judge. She left the show after this season for contract reasons. The decision was made after the season ended, which is why there was never anything mentioned on the show.
Season 4's Mikalah Gordon was in Conway, Arkansas (where Kris is from) reporting and Season 7's Carly Smithson was in San Diego, California (where Adam is from) reporting.
