The song Jessica sang at the end was "Nobody's Suppose to Be Here" by Deborah Cox. Usually the swan song is a song previously sung, but she never sang this song on the show previously. This is the first time that's ever been done.
For the first time when showing the recap and Jimmy's critiques, both people who were called forward had their recap shown and then Jimmy compared the two as part of his critique. Usually even if three people are called the recaps are shown separately and after each recap Jimmy critiques just the one person (although still one video).
Like he often does Ryan broke up the Top 7 into two groups of three (Phillip, Hollie, Colton in one group and Jessica, Joshua and Elise in another) and then announced the 7th person (Skylar) as safe and told her to choose which group she thought was safe, which, of course, she refused to, to which Ryan put her in the right group.
Tonight's Twitter hashtags were: #telljimmy and #thesave.
James Durbin performed "Higher Than Heaven" and Jennifer Hudson Ft. Ne-Yo performed "Think Like a Man".
Actress Jane Lynch was in the audience.
The Ford Music Video was "Great Escape" by Boys Like Girls. Someone opens up a math notebook and inside are drawings, some which have pictures of the heads of the Idols. Hollie, Colton, Skylar and Josh (in cartoon form) jump into a car (also a cut out picture), when Elise riding a dragon starts chasing them. Phillip and Jessica show up riding some machine and shoot at Elise and her dragon. The dragon blasts fire at them and then smoke fills the screen. The person then closes their math notebook.
The Group Number was "Raise Your Glass" by Pink.
Ryan did not mention the number of votes.

Although they stopped Casey mid performance last year, this is the first time the Judges ran on stage and took the mic from the eliminated contestant to announce the Save.
