    • There were a number of changes starting with this season.
-The biggest change was on the judging panel. Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi left and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, and Jennifer Lopez (who had previously been a mentor in Season 6 (Top 8 week)) join.
-Interscope Records, which is part of Universal Music Group, replaced Sony Music Entertainment as Idol's official partner record label. Interscope's Chairman Jimmy Iovine, a songwriter and producer, was named as the in-house mentor to work with the contestants on a weekly basis, as suppose to weekly mentors, although some weeks did have celebrity guest mentors work with Jimmy. Jimmy's specific role was hinted at but not mentioned in this episode.
-Nigel Lythgoe returned as executive producer.
-The minimum age of contestants allowed to audition was lowered from 16 to 15 (but the maximum is still 28).
      - Other minor changes to the show are the theme song (more of a remix) and the opening credits sequence is new, as well as being aired on Wednesdays and Thursdays instead of Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
