For the first time ever, each contestant was given four phone numbers, as suppose to three in the finale.
Although promising in the previous episode, Scotty did not shave his head for the finale.
There was only a video clip before the final performance of each contestant.
During his performance, Taio Cruz's mic was cut out and a part of the performance couldn't be heard (except for the music).
Ryan had to delay a bit while Taio Cruz got ready to perform.
It was revealed that right before the show Lauren had some vocal issues. They even had a medic come out and explain what happened. However, she was fine and able to perform all her songs.
Season 7 Runner Up David Archuleta and Season 8 Winner Kris Allen were in the audience tonight.
Taio Cruz performed "Positive" which was the Perfect Harmony contest song. David Cook performed "(Don't You) Forget About Me" which was this season's elimination song. This is the first time that two non-contestant songs were sung during the performance, and the first time that one is sung in the middle of the show as suppose to the end.
This episode aired on a Tuesday instead of Wednesday, just like it was in previous seasons.
Each contestant performed three songs tonight. The first was their favorite performance they had already done, the second was a song chosen by their personal Idol, and the last is the Winner's Song if they should win. The songs sung tonight were:
Scotty McCreery-"Gone" by Montgomery Gentry
Lauren Alaina-"Flat on the Floor" by Katrina Elam
Scotty McCreery-Check Yes or No" by George Strait (Choosen by George Strait)
Lauren Alaina-"Maybe It Was Memphis" by Pam Tillis
Scotty McCreery-"I Love You This Big" (Original)
Lauren Alaina-"Like My Mother Does" by Kristy Lee Cook
*This is the first time ever that personal Idols chose songs for the contestants. This is the second time that only one Winner's Song was an original. The first time was in Season 2, when Clay had an original song but Ruben didn't. This is also the first time a Winner's song was originally recorded by a previous Idol contestant.
Scotty won the coin toss, and deferred to Lauren who chose to go second. This is the second time the coin winner allowed the other person to choose who goes first, with the other being in Season 6 when Blake asked Jordin her preference.
The Judges critiqued twice only. The first time was after the second round, where they made comments about each of the first two performances from the contestants and then the second time was after each performance in Round 3. This is the first time since Season 1, where the Judges did not make critiques after each performance in the finale.
This is the only 1 hour performance episode of the season. This is the first time ever that there was only one, 1 hour performance episode.
This Top 2 is not only the youngest Top 2 ever, with both being under 18, but also, the first to both be Country singers.
