  • A decent beginning to the season.

While I do think that this two hour special was a decent beginning to the season, I think that the show will go downhill if the judges keep being so cruel to people that are not beautiful. While I do laugh out loud every episode, I feel as though the episodes are repetitive.

I cannot believe that so few people made it through to Hollywood. I think that only a few of these were shown. I wish the producers would have shown more of the talented contestants. I know that we will have a chance to see them in the Hollywood shows, but I would really like to see just what made them shine in the eyes of the judges.

Watching the judges make fun of clueless wannabe singers is funny to a point, but when an obese or physically, not beautiful person comes on screen, you just know that the chance of them making the cut is slim to none. Yes, there are exceptions, but more often than not, they have just been put through so that Simon, Paula and Randy can poke fun at them.
  • I laughed so hard for a good 10 minutes

This first episode was the funniest, they didn't show to many of the people that got accepted but the rejects where a riot

I think the one that is stuck in my head is that girl who would make the wookie call, well she was supposidly growling like the cowerdly lion but it sounded more like Chewbacca to me. Simons face was pricless ... "What am I suppose to say to that?" we're all gonna remember this episode as the one with "The Lion Girl"

But what I still find amazing is that some people go in there singing really bad and they come out shocked that they didn't make it, maybe in there head they're singing like Whitney Houston but all we hear is another William Hung
  • An entertaining start to the new season.

I really enjoyed this episode. It’s amazing how many strange people come on this show thinking they are good singers. Some people like the guy who went to drink water during the audition or the girl with the tie that forgot all the words of her song, or even the Wizard of Oz girl, what were they thinking? At least they were better than the boxer dressed guy, or the juggler who would rather make a fool of themselves. It’s a singing competition people, not an ‘all in one’ talent show.

Of course, I feel that most of the people (not all) who got selected were a good choice, like Denise, and the navy guy who did sing really well. I didn’t think that Matt who sung ‘California Germans’ was that good, but he got selected anyway.

I did feel sorry for Dayna, the one whose boss had brought her to audition. The judges didn’t have to make a crude indirect comment about them having an affair or something like that. And I also thought that the guy in the green shirt, who Randy criticized brutally, wasn’t as bad as the others, but his choice of song was. Also, Josh, the guy who was asked to sing the Abba song, did sing his style of the song well, but he was rather one dimensional in singing the same tone for all the other songs.

Finally, I thought that Brenna, the one dressed in black who came towards the end was the funniest, especially her ‘Me and Idol are like, BFF’! However, she did take it in good spirit afterwards, instead of breaking down like most of the others.

All in all, this was an entertaining episode with a lot of laughs.
  • It was hilarious

Yeah this was a great way to open the season In my opinion. This episode was really great, Ilove the fact that a lot of people coudn't sing and especially when all the weirdos sing. Though Seattle looks weirder this episode was still off the hook. It even had someone who sang 'Somewhere over the rainbow' and yeah that was a way better version than Katherine McPhee could ever do. This season is looking up. I loved it when Randy trashed the vocal coach and Simon gave comments that Randy was very rude towards Randy. That was funny coming from Simon.
  • first episode of the season kicks off with audishens in Minneapolis.

American Idol has proved itself as a cultural phenomena, but after 5 successful seasons they kind of forgot the basics. this episode focused on the weird wannabe's who seek their 15 minutes of fame. usually there's no problem there, but this time the editing was terrible. every humiliation lasted so long only to hear the mean remarks from the judges. this show is about talent! not the lack of it! and the ones who did go through to Hollywood were less than mediocre. the judges looked like they were forced into this job. this episode was too long, pointless and badly edited.
  • This was a funny episode.

This episode was so funny enen though their was no talent in that city it was funny. Their were two singers who impressed me the most with there singing skills and the first one was the 16 yr old girl , for that girl just to be 16yrs old that girl could blow with her talent she has a strong beautiful singing voice. The second person who impressed me was the the guy who auditioned that was from the navy and who said he won rgan idol, that guy has a beautiful voice and I would'nt be surprise if he ends up ont of the finalist in season 6. Overall this episode was great and funny.
  • American Idol is BACK!

This was another great opener to American Idol. Everyone loves to see the good and the bad and we can't wait for more!

I can't help but notice, however, that the "sweetness" of Paula that captivated us seems to be fading. It may be that she's seen too many bad auditions and simply can't take anymore, or it may be that all of her kind comments are being edited out, but Simon's character is definately taking over in the auditions. Even Randy is becoming more rude to the contestants. I miss the Paula that felt for everyone and wanted them all to get through to Hollywood. I miss the heartwarming comments she used to give and the honest encouragement, even for the most awful of singers. Where is Paula? Maybe she'll show up again (but probably not until the live shows when all the singers have talent).

I love it that American Idol is back but when I was watching the auditions from mineapolis I noticed they spended far to much time on people who didn't go through.

Don't get me wrong, I find it hilarious how some people think they can sing. But they just spend too much time on those people.

Also i can't believe only 17 people went through to the hollywood round. That's a lot of people who CAN'T sing.

Simon Cowell is still funny as hell. People say he's to harsh on contestants but I think he is just fair. People who can't sing and believe they can need to hear it!

Overall a great episode, lets just hope the next episode is spend more on people who can sing.
  • This episode was very entertaining, but Paula didn't talk much.

A pretty good addition of AI audtions, but I'm hoping for better in Seattle. There weren't that many good performances in Minneapolis, only 17 made it to Hollywood. I found that Wizard of Oz woman hilarious, and there was something very repetitive as an excuse of talent that I haven't heard as much on any other audtion nights. A bunch of people said that they were very original. Sometimes orginality isn't good. Just because you're original doesn't necessarily make you talented. You can suck at singing and be original. William Hung was original and he was horrible. And also, I don't see the point in having Jewel guest judge and give her a vote, when it should be strictly up to Simon, Paula, and Randy.
  • Ryan, Simon, Randy, and Paula are back!

I think the reason that American Idol is only on

For one time a year and that the Survivor &

Other shows that have since seen their past days gone and

Only for AI to rise up is because AI doesn't overexpose

At all unlike Survivor and the other shows. Randy, Paula, Ryan, and of course, Simon is back.

Don't know why people who can't sing go on there? To want fifteen minutes of fame? I mean come on.
  • American Idol is a well-oiled machine humming along.

    "Good"
The first episode of the new season of American Idol delivered as expected, with a range of talent leaning towards the bad. Simon made his typically unflattering remarks to those who thought they were better than they were, but he also showed fairness towards those he liked. Randy and Paula continued their trend of growing more Simon-like and were harsher than they used to be. With one contestant who worked as a vocal coach, Randy played the role of the heartless judge, leaving Simon to take up for the contestant and accuse Randy of making it personal. Ryan reported that 17 contestants had made it through to the next round, though few of them were featured, as the first episodes focus on the wannabes. The show featured its share of painful disappointments: a secretary flown out by her boss, a kid who sang Abba and Barry Manilow in a pushed, pseudo-rock voice, a kid who juggled batons, and a woman who sang as the cowardly lion in a low-pitched warbly voice, all of whom seemed shocked to discover they would not move on. Yet the show also contained its successes: a 16-year old daughter of a drug addict, a feisty Columbian, a show choir student whose parents could not afford the trip, a Navy man from the USS Ronald Reagan, and an Army reservist whose husband was in Iraq. Jewel contributed as a guest judge, showing kindness but honesty. The episode promised to yield a season as popular and dramatic as ever. Idol has succeeded because it makes the stakes high for the contestants and thereby accentuates the human drama. It has taken the mantle that ABC's Wide World of Sports articulated as "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" and has made it feel real and immediate.
  • It's Audition time

I laughed so much last night!!! I mostly watch the audition process and tend to lose interest in the show when they have it narrowed down to who will perform and be voted off. I simply watched last night to get a good laugh, and as usual American Idol delivered. Troy Winham called himself Urban Amish, and could not sing, but at least he sort of knew it. Charles Moody dressed as Appolo Creed and sang opra, badly I might add. Denise who was born a crack baby, sang Jennifer Holiday's "I'm not going", and she sounded good. Wonder if she will be strong enough to actually make the show and advance past a certain point?

Perla Mensesses I don't think she will make it past the rigors of the Hollywood portion of the audition process. Tashon Moore I had to mute my television after a while. She simply ruined Kiss for me, and I could not sit through the agony any longer!!! That was simply horrible. One woman named Trista when she sang, she sounded like a Wounded Wookie during some parts. Again I had to mute my television.

Tonight they are in Seattle, hope those folks come prepared, because only 17 made it through in Minneappolis.
  • But all the audition episodes are silly!

This was the first of the audition installments, and the judges were in Minnesota. We had the good, we had the bad and we also had the ugly (I won't name names!), and as audition segments go, this was par for the course.

Things got interesting in a couple of parts though. I liked the critique that the judges gave to the rocker guy... the one with the gravelly voice. I agree with them that hearing every song in that voice might get a bit grating, but their advice to him was good, and while he might not realize it now, he probably will thank them a year from now for rejecting him.

The other interesting parts were the ~other~ type of interesting. The bad interesting. Like the Number One Fan... and doesn't that just bring up scary "Misery"-like memories? Especially when she said that she'd met Ace (from last year) a couple of times... I had to wonder if she'd met him because she was stalking him? And the juggler guy... and his blow-up when he left the room. That wasn't funny, or at least, it wasn't funny until the camera cut back into the room, and Simon said, "I think he took that well" (or something like that). That was hilarious. I'm sure Simon laughed when he saw the episode, with what was going on outside the room that he didn't know about.

Not many gold tickets this round, but maybe Seattle will make up for that!

This show is the same old thing every season and I love it. The audtions are good and then everything afterwards isnt all that great unless your really into the singing, to which I am certainly not. The audtions in the 2 hour premiere were certinaly funny as the first 40 minutes there was I think 1 person let through? Yea, 1. I love the bad singers and more importantly I love the judges reactions to the bad singers. This episode was just what you would expect of any audition show, I liked it alot. Though I still think Jack Bauer should be a judge!
