  • Sufficed for two hours of TV watching, but was expecting a LOT more!

Living in England, the earliest I can watch American Idol is on a Friday night, two days after you people have already found out who goes. This means inbetween Wednesday and Friday I have to be very careful about visiting Internet sites and I hate it when I find out who goes before hand. Also, it is common for me to be out on a Friday night, so the next available time for me to watch it is Sunday night. Thats quite a while after America knows!

Anyway, my comments on the performances on the Final 12:

Before I begin, I want to say 2 things

    1) I am not a fan of Stevie Wonder\'s music, I don\'t think he quite deserves the legendary status he gets and thought it was a POOR theme to choose on the producer\'s behalf

    2) Living in Britain, I am not very exposed to his music (so yes, my judgement on him is without much experience), so I was unfamiliar with most of the original versions of the songs sung on the show

    Ace: Average vocal, good performance.

Kellie: Boring song, sounded out of her comfort zone. Stevie is not her style.

Elliot: Vocal was overpraised I felt, but he did a pretty good job.

Mandisa: As Simon put it best \"now the show is a competition\". Amazing vocal.

Bucky: Despite being a country-rocker, I felt he chose a good Stevie song for his voice.

Melissa: Putting the lyrical mess aside, her vocals sounded pretty good on the song.

Lisa: Brilliant vocal and stage presence. How can this girl be 16?

Kevin: Have to agree with Simon, this was a pretty bad vocal. He had fun with the song though.

Katherine: Brilliant vocal as usual (we have learned to expect nothing less), but a boring song.

Taylor: Good vocal, enjoyed himself, very original character and personality infusion.

Paris: Would\'ve done Stevie proud, great vocals, good performance.

Chris: I\'m aware the rock image is himself, but this is Stevie Wonder week and his performance made it seem like we were at a rock concert. Still, amazing vocals, can\'t fault that.moreless
  • Good episode. Some performances were great, and others not so great...

Considering every contestant had to do a Stevie Wonder song, they did good overall.

Ace Young- Not his greatest performance/vocals, but he’s still a cutie!!! ;) It’s hard being the first person to sing, so he did good considering.

Kellie Pickler - Aww, she didn’t do as bad as the judges said she did, but she was just boring!

Elliott Yamin - No doubt he has an amazing voice, but his performance and song choice was dull.

Mandisa - I love her, she is so down to earth, but I’m not really into her style of singing. She kind of shouts the song.

Bucky Covington - WOW, he totally surprised me on how well he did. I was so worried for him because it was ‘Stevie Wonder’ night, but his ‘Superstition’ rendition blew me away. I love his voice. Go Bucky!!! :)

Melissa McGhee - Didn’t like her song or vocals.

Lisa Tucker - She did good. Totally impressed at how well she commands the stage, though. However, she's prob my least favorite.

Kevin Covais - Fun rendition!!! I like him.

Katharine McPhee - She has an amazing voice. I’m starting to really like her now. And she’s absolutely beautiful! I think this was one of her best performances.

Taylor Hicks - Wow, he looked sharp tonight!!! He’s so much fun to watch, I love him. He’s refreshing. A great performance.

Paris Bennett - Hmm, I dunno. While she’s totally sweet and adorable, I personally don’t care for her type of singing. Too old-school for me.

Chris Daughtry - The people in charge of lighting & special affects went overboard with his performance compared to the others. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Chris’s performance and I think his voice is incredible, but it wasn’t fair to the others, lol. Plus, he had too much makeup on, ahhhhhh!

    Fire the stylists!moreless
  • mostly okay

in general the performances were great. Simon\'s right, as usual: it\'s like viewing 2 different sets of competition. Paris was just awesome...i LOVE that girl. Taylor Hicks is definitely not my favorite performer but man, the guy really has it all. I guess the final will be between him, Paris and Chris. Katherine McPhee was better than ever. Mandisa, unfortunately, wasn\'t in her best, but I agree w/ Stevie Wonder that she can sing anything. She\'s still way much better than a lot of people, like Kevin and Kellie for example.

  • Stevie Wonder

Tonight was Stevie Wonder night. The top 12 got to meet and great the infamous Stevie Wonder. After most got over their pure shock and admiration over getting to meet such a great star it wss time to go to work and pick a song that Stevie had done. I was a bit disappointed in the song selection of the contestants on a whole with the exception of a few. Stevie has such wonderful hits out there and nobody picked any of his really big hits would have been the ultimate challange. I felt a lot of the contestants took the safe route in their song choice. It was not a great night for most of the contestants.moreless
