American Idol

Danny Gokey is set to go first on Idol tonight. He will sing Dance Little Sister by Terrance Trent D'arby - Paula Abdul's selection for him. He gives an energetic performance, which Randy Jackson says was 'dope' for him! Kara says the dancing was a little too gyrating for her, and she's not sure she'll remember that performance tomorrow. Paula says he did a great job! Simon says the dancing was a bit desperate, but it was vocally very good.

Kris Allen is next to go on American Idol, singing a tune chosen by Randy and Kara for him - it's Apologize by One Republic! Randy says it's a big song and Kris needs a big moment! Kris takes the stage seated at the piano and delivers a heartfelt arrangement of the song. Randy says this showed them who he could be in the future in the music business. Kara says it was competent, but she wanted him to make it more! Paula noticed a bum note, but says she is proud of him. Simon calls Kara out for choosing the song and then blaming Kris for not getting it right, saying that Kara and Randy didn't follow through on the arrangement! Things get heated among the judges!

Adam will have his turn now on American Idol. Simon Cowell got special permission from Bono and U2 for Adam to sing One! Adam belts out a very different version of the song. Randy says he's in the zone, but he wasn't sure about him going off the melody so much. Kara says it was unbelievable! Paula calls him the American Idol, and Simon concurs, saying if Adam's not in the finale next week it will be one of the biggest upsets ever on the show!

Danny Gokey has chosen You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker as his song selection tonight on Idol. In a white shirt and dark vest, Danny perches on a stool and begins the song with soft intensity and builds as the song progresses. After his subtle finish, Randy tells Danny that he can really, really, really sing! Kara says it was stunning! Paula says it left them all breathless - a beautiful performance. Simon says he wouldn't have done the same arrangement, but it was a vocal master class!

Ryan then introduces Kris Allen, who is ready to do his second song - Heartless by Kanye West! Kris takes the American Idol stage with his guitar and does an enjoyable acoustic version of the popular tune. Randy tells him he liked it better than The Freys' version or Kanye's version! Kara says it was fearless - perfect! Paula says it keeps him relevant - bravo! Simon admits he thought it was a lame song choice and had written him out - but that has all changed after that performance!

Adam has chosen an Aerosmith song as his choice tonight on American Idol. Adam takes the stage to sing Cryin' wearing a leather jacket and black jeans and sings it like a rock star! Randy says he's one of the best ever to be on the Idol stage. Kara says it was amazing and they'll see him at the final. Paula says he set the bar so high he should be collecting frequent flier miles. Simon says he's not going to suck up like the others. He warns that people should only vote for Adam if they believe he deserves to be there based on talent!
