REMEMBER - all of these contestants go on tour with the show this summer, so they still have opportunities to learn & grow as performers. This is not really the end of the line for any of them.

Scott MacIntyre is a great pianist but a mediocre singer; can't break out of the Manilow/Joel mode to find himself, and his vocals are inconsistent and increasingly weak. His personal strength and courage are to be admired. But he has reached his max where American Idol is concerned.

Matt Giraud - I'm on the fence about him. I see his appeal to the younger set, but I don't see his STAR quality. Not sure he can carry a show alone, as a headline star would have to.

Lil Rounds showed such great potential but is seeming to fizzle out. Perhaps being away from her family is affecting her; perhaps this is just not her year. SHe is a good mimic, but not an artist in her own right. One more week of this calibre of performance will cement the fact that she has topped out.

Kris Allen is a charming character and a decent singer. But he lacks STAR power. Handsome doesn't put money in the bank unless you are a model.

Danny Gokey is a soulful singer, perhaps the best white soul singer I have heard. Delivers consistently good quality vocals, but lacks showmanship. There is no electricity on the stage. Watching him sing is no different that listening to a CD, so why pay to go to a concert> And if he can't sell concert tickets then he can't be a STAR.

Anoop Desai is much like Kris Allen - very charming and a decent singer. But like Kris, he lacks STAR power. He is ultimately forgettable.

Allison Iraheta can be forgiven for her inconsistency as she is so young. She has to sell herself as a performing artist at an age when most teenagers are just beginning to find themselves. Her talent is extraordinary, but she may do better in another year or so. Right now she has control of her voice but no control of what she projects on stage. She seems a little frightened. If she can settle down and bring consistency week after week, she could win this. But the season may end before she finds that groove.

Adam Lambert - Year after year the judges are consistent in their message to all contestants - OWN the stage; OWN the song; bring your OWN interpretation to the arrangement. Adam does just that, with power and style (evenif you don't care for his sartorial taste, he gets points for being himself and being willing to take on other looks). His vocal range and control are the envy of every singer from karaoke kings/queens to professionals. This is a true PERFORMER and ENTERTAINER, not just a singer. A package deal that looks like a winner!moreless

    • Simon: (to Anoop) You're like a singing yo-yo. One minute you're down and then you're up. Last week was abysmal, this week was very good.
