        • Each contestant sang a song from their personal Idol. Also the Duets return in this episode, only this time it's Trios. Also different from past years is each Trio is a medley not a single song. The songs sung tonight are:
          Colton Dixon-"Everything" by Lifehouse
Skylar Laine-"Gunpowder and Lead" by Miranda Lambert
Colton Dixon, Phillip Phillips & Elise Testone-"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, and "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac
Heejun Han-"A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway
Hollie Cavanagh-"Jesus, Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood
DeAndre Brackensick-"Sometimes I Cry" by Eric Benét
          Jessica Sanchez-"Sweet Dreams" by Beyoncé
DeAndre Brackensick, Heejun Han & Joshua Ledet-"The Lady in My Life", "Rock With You", and "P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)" by Michael Jackson
Phillip Phillips-"Still Rainin'" by Johnny Lang
Joshua Ledet-"Without You" by Mariah Carey
Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine & Jessica Sanchez-"Like a Prayer", "Borderline" and "Express Yourself" by Modanna
Elise Testone-"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin

        • All of the Idols have American Idol twitter accounts. They were shown on the bottom of the screen after each performer went. Most of them at their first initial with their last name and then AI11. The exceptions were DeAndre and Hollie, who just had their last name and then AI11. The accounts were later changed to their own personal accounts once the show was over.

        • The song writing contest, Perfect Harmony, was announced as returning again. This year Jason Derulo is the singer involved, as well he has already started the song and is called Undefeated, whereas last year the whole song was written by someone else. Yet again, it will be performed on the finale.

      • ALLUSIONS (2)

        • 3 Direction: Ryan jokes that Heejun, Joshua and DeAndre are a new group, which name he takes from pop group One Direction, who are a group of five boys who originally tried out for another reality singing competition, The X Factor (U.K.) individually, and were later put together by Simon Cowell.

        • Ryan: May the odds ever be in your favor.

Ryan quotes a line from The Hunger Games, a book by Suzanne Collins, which was made into a movie the year this episode aired.
