Before the show started there was an incident with the stage. One of the giant American Idol signs fell over, and there was a lot of shattered glass. The contestants didn't get a full dress rehersal because of this.
This episode introduces a new aspect of the show, the Duet. There are no numbers on the screen, and are not shown in the recap, however the judges do critique them, and would obviously impact the voting. Also, there is no video clip shown before them. Ryan simply announces them and the song starts.
Songs performed tonight:
Adam Lambert-"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin
Allison Iraheta-"Cry Baby" by Janis Joplin
Kris Allen-"Come Together" by The Beatles
Danny Gokey-"Dream On" by Aerosmith
Kris and Danny-"Renegade" by Styx
Adam and Allison-"Slow Ride" by Foghat
This is the first season where each performer only has one solo performance in the Top 4. However, each one did perform twice, as one was as a duet.
The band was on the stage.
The contestants went to The Roxy to be mentored and they sang with a full band, as suppose to singing with just a piano. The mentor was Slash.
