They took on Country. See how they did.

Brooke White "Jolene" Fantastic! Much better than the last two weeks. I loved it! Great job!!!! 9.5/10

David Cook "Little Sparrow" The first two are making me like country music. I can't believe it. He did a grea job also. I think it'll be a good night. 9.7/10

Ramiele Malubay "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" I spoke too soon. Not good. Out of tune. Too fast for her. Didn't like it. 7.3/10

Jason Castro "Travelin' Through" I liked it. Very good performance. We'll see him on Idol Gives Back. Great job. 8.9/10

Carly Smithson "Here You Come Again" I disagree with the judges. It wasn't good in my opinion. I've seen much better tonight. Hope she's safe. 8.6/10

David Archuleta "Smoky Mountain Memories" Loved id. See you next week. You're back. Great job. 9.8/10

Kristy Lee Cook "Coat of Many Colors" Just o.k. Nothing great about it. I think we might say goodbye to her. 7.4/10

Syesha Mercado "I Will Always Love You" I am now a Syesha fan after that. It was perfect. I don't get what Rany and Simon are saying. I thought it was better than overly fantastic. 10/10!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Johns "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right" I loved it! Not the best tonight, but still great job. 9.9/10.

Bottom 3: Ramiele Malubay, Carly Smithson, and Kristy Lee Cook

Dolly Parton...what more can I say? She looks well...odd...and she sounds like she's inhaled helium or something. I've never liked her music, but I love country music. The idol hopefuls did terrible. They can't sing country at all...well the songs weren't good to begin with. The only performance I enjoyed and watched over was David Cook's. He sang "Little Sparrow" and it didn't even sound country, which is probably why I liked it. He went into falcettos and played the guitar...he just did great! Overall, it was a very sad episode and most of the contestants just didn't do well. I'm really annoyed that Kristie Lee Cook did poorly even though she's a country singer...she needs to go. Overall, poor episode.moreless
  • Overall, it's average

    8.0
    "Great"
Maybe this genre of songs isn't exactly my type so i don't particularly enjoy it.

Nonetheless, there's good performance, some not so good and some just plain awful.

I'm not sure if Ramiele's health is fully restored or not but her performance kind of guaranteed she'll be in the bottom three. * spoilers: she was eliminated.

I've went on wikipedia, they did a good summary over there. Kristy's in very dangerous waters, she's in bottom three a great deal of times. Twice for Syesha.

Clean records for three contestants, all guys: David Archuleta, David Cook and Michael Johns. Let's hope there's better songs next round.moreless
  • The songs were even worse than last week's. I can't evaluate it because there's no grade lower than F.

    "Mediocre"
It's a tall order to ask an established singer (Parton) to have a repertoire of worthy songs for the entire group. The idol hopefuls should have been able to pick their own songs and call it Country Night. Then Dolly Parton could mentor them.

Anyway, the most entertaining parts were when Paula would tell Castro that this was one of his best performances. He gave her a poker look, but you can tell even he didn't buy that. Then she tells Carly how she has evolved, and Carly smiles in response, but you can tell she was just being polite and had no idea what Paula is babbling about. Paula tells Syesa she's "growing and growing and growing" and as usual, everyone watches blankly, completely clueless.

Shyesa picked the best song, "I will always love you," and did pretty well. Carly picked the second most popular song and did it justice. The others, including David A. were no big deal. I can't see any of these people successfully selling records other than Kristy because the easiest way to make money is going country. All those country singers have the same whining, lamenting sound, and country audiences just lap it up. It's one of the mysteries of the universe, no one knows why, but country (which so many people find repulsive) is easy money. I mean look at Carrie Underwood for crying out loud, AI's biggest monetary success.

In any case, this show does not find idols among the common people. The show should be called American Commonors or American WannaBes or American I-Gotta-Find-Another-Way-To-Make-A-Living. Most of the singers associated with the show have little in the way of singing careers, often reduced to commentary on American Rewind, or doing gigs on Wednesdays AI. Go to college! Get a REAL job.moreless
  • Overall a great night minus a few exceptions.

    "Perfect"
First was Brooke White. It definetely was not her best performance although I hope she isn't in the bottom three this week as she is one of my favorites. 7.5/10 Second David Cook sang "Little Sparrow" and gave a unique spin on it. That is why David is one of my favorites he takes risks. Although it wasn't my favorite from him, it was good. 8/10 Ramiele Malubay showed personality during her performance at least but everything else was blah. I think it is time for either her, Jason, or Kristy to leave soon or maybe all three in one week as they did the worst this week. 6.5/10 Jason Castro was better this week than last I'll give him that, but what fans of American Idol see in this guy I have no idea. He does the same thing each week and his voice isn't that good. 6.5/10 Carly Smithson did really well. Finally she smiled! It was a nice song choice from her although I still think she will have HER 10/10 moment soon. 8.5/10 David Archuleta sang really nice tonight. And he didn't lick his lips! Finally as that got really odd and annoying during each of his performances. He looked, sounded, and WAS a star tonight. 9/10 Kristy Lee Cook's Idol experience may be running it's end because her performance was like Simon said pleasant I just can't remember anything about it, other than she wore a dress tonight. Honestly she's forgetable and I really liked her last week with God Bless the U.S.A. but tonight was not very good in my opinion. 6.5/10 Syesha Mercado was absolutely brilliant! I hate how Randy and Simon especially keep comparing everything to Whitney Houston. Whitney is amazing and that is Dolly's and Her song, but Syesha did brilliant on it and Simon to say it was okay and she shouldn't have choosen it was wrong. Atfer Syesha's performances of Yesterday, If I Was Your Woman, and I Will Always Love You, I am a BIG fan of her. 10/10 Michael Johns sang his song really well. I just would have liked it better had he not made weird faces while he sang it. I guess that's what he does but vocally it was very good although I enjoyed We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions from last week better. 8.5/10 Safe (In My Opinion) 1) Syesha Mercado 2) David Archuleta 3) Michael Johns 4) Carly Smithson 5) David Cook 6) Brooke White Hopefully the Bottom Three 1) Jason Castro 2) Ramiele Malubay 3) Kristy Lee Cook Although I think it might be a shocker and Jason will be safe since he was in the bottom three last week and Brooke may be in the bottom three this week. Honestly between Ramiele, Kristy, or Jason it doesn't matter who goes home this week because absolutely none of them have a chance of winning American Idol with so many David Archuleta and David Cook fans.moreless
