Bo Bice went down into the crowd and onto the judges platform during his performance, this is the first time that a contestant has gone off stage during one of their performances. Scott Savol also went down off the stage during his, a few minutes later.

Despite being moved into the Top 12 Mario Vasquez is no longer in the competition. He first stated that it was for a "personal matter" which is what Ryan mentioned at the beginning of the episode. He went on to get a recording contract with J Records. He later stated he wanted more control over his music and thought being on American Idol would be more restrictive. This is the first time someone has quite the show this late in the competition. Nikko Smith who had the highest amount of votes out of the two men who left, replaces him.

Although this was announced as a LIVE show, according to MTV News, the show was taped the day before it aired to allow the contestants to get used to the new stage. This is why at some points it seems as if the audience suddenly stops clapping or standing.

Usually, for most of the time, only Simon will have a bad comment for the singers. In the case of Carrie Underwood for tonight, he was the only one that had a good comment.

After Mario Vazquez's, who was one of the favorites to win, decided to drop due to personal reasons, Niko Smith, son of former pro Football/Baseball legend Ozzie Smith, is taking over as one of the 6 guys in the top 12 due to he had more votes then the other guy who was eliminated
